My Uber account got hacked yesterday, noticed by luck when there was hundreds of quids pending on the CC.
Got sorted, but as a PSA it would have been quicker than emailing them for help if I’d have had the Backup Codes. Which allow you to get into your account if the sms codes are being delivered somewhere else (as was my case).

Account? Hundreds of quids?
How many brake pads are you getting through?
You probably don't need telling now but SMS is definitely at the "just about better than nothing" end of the 2FA spectrum.
Yeah, had that setup, but didn’t seem to help and the made it harder to get back in! Trying to explain to their email help line that someone was nicking their dosh was hard work but by late afternoon they figured it out.

How come?

Dunno mate, think that must have been the hack? Uber recognised my mobile number and email when trying to get in to reset my password but the 2FA codes were being sent elsewhere - could tell as the “We’ve sent a code to xxxxxxxx77” wasn’t my number. The backup codes you can screenshot would’ve got round this.

Uh. Weird. Got time for a chat about it at some point? This concerns me.
It is odd. A straight up SIM swap would have given your number to their device on completion. It would be worth a word with your phone company just to confirm there's been no change request and that there's no change pending.
