Work - currrent situation - can be used anywhere anytime, one number convienience yet open to scrutiny and control
Adding a separate personal phone - all mine but inconvience of 2 numbers. Thinking of shoving a Plusnet sim into an old handset.
Anyone else been through one phone to two and regretted it?
I'm a one work, one private sort of guy.
My work phone is on during working hours only. So two.
yet open to scrutiny and control
What scrutiny and control are you worried about? (I don't have a job and when I last had one mobile phones weren't really a thing)
I used to use just my work phone, but got sick of having it on my all the time and getting calls in the evening and weekends and on hols, and text messages and emails etc. as at the time I was doing a job supporting the customer operation. Even though i'm on down time once you see something come in it's on your mind and inevitably you either start answering or its bothering you. So I got a second phone and haven't really regretted it. It can be a bit of a PITA managing two phones, but friends and family have my personal number and work colleagues and customers have my work one. The work one gets left on the side when not working.
Also if I ever change jobs I don't have the hassle of changing my number as work would take my work phone away along with the SIM and number.

+1 for me too
First and foremost, read your HR Handbook.
In my former, former place we were all given mobiles, the handbook said "all calls should be of a business nature and only to clients, suppliers and colleagues etc. If, in an emergency, you need to make a non-business call, you should make your line manager aware as soon as is practical".
But, face to face Managers would say "don't spent £30-£40 a month on a mobile, just use the work phones, we get unlimited calls anyway"
They did this because it meant we were effectively on-call 24/7 and on Holiday etc and perhaps, rumour has it in case they needed to get rid of someone it was another thing they could use as it was almost impossible to fire someone in that place.
Personally, I use one for both, but it's a small company, there’s' no HR handbook, the boss knows we use them as our personal phones and we only work with other businesses so out of hours call are almost unheard of, but in the other place I was more than glad to have a completely separate number for work - I always turned it off when I finished for the day and it stayed in my car.
Two for me when I worked for the man. Working hours only. Left it on my desk at the end of the day.
I use two, so I can switch the bugger off. The tipping point for me was when a work colleague woke me up one Sunday morning to ask for help with their home computer.
Two for me.
Work phone is on when I'm at work, and is also used when I'm overseas. Home phone is on all the time.
The ability to separate is vital, IMHO. I don't mind seeing a work email out of hours when I'm away from home on business, seems only fair. When I'm not at work, however, I'm not at work.
Work issue me a phone, I just forward the number to my personal one. Only really use it if I'm overseas (£££ data) although that's less of an issue with inclusive roaming now.
Always kept separate just to keep the number I've had 20+ years now. Some employers have offered option to port in but risk of them not cooperating when you leave.
Current work are now offering £25/month allowance instead, need to wait until out of current contract though. Will probably take up that when I can.
Im very much similar to CFH's situation. The difference i may be that, if im off work Monday (which actually I am) and i saw / heard a customer wanting to place an order (im in Sales) I'd jump on it.
That said, what could be so urgent it cant be done tomorrow?
In addition I've been passive with an argument at work, but also at same time demonstrating Im willing to work extra time to be successful - make target - in my role, believe my out of work time isnt respected. This is one way of me regaining control and some self control also.
Anyway, hence plus net - currently £8 a month with get me a 30 day SIM which i can cancel easly 3GB/1000mins/unlim texts - way more than I'd need and little commitent
Work issue me a phone, I just forward the number to my personal one.
A good few years ago I tried that the other way around. At the time my tariff was something like 2p/min evenings and weekends and 40p/min at other times as I didn't use my personal phone to make calls during the day. I only realised when I got a huge bill that forwarding a call from my personal phone was charged at the same rate as making a call from it.
Work phone only - I'm not spending £30-40 a month to run a second phone.
Do not disturb with certain numbers allowed sorts me out with most things, the occasional disturbance I dont mind - considering the phone saves me £600 a year I'm happy to do a bit extra.
Two phones for all the wrong reasons. I'm in a BT monopoly area. BT home phone crap, EE mobile crap. O2 work mobile, no service at home.
Would love an IPhone that would take two SIM cards. I'd still have a personal phone though.

Nor am I. My contract is somthing like £12/month, and I could probably bring that down further if I went PAYG.
Buy a handset that will take two Sims. Turn off the work SIM out of hours. Bet there is even software to do it automatically.
The last time I had this dilemma a phone was just a phone so I managed with one. Not sure how I'd work it now but I'd definitely not be taking business calls in my free time 👿
Dual SIM phone and use that one phone for business and personal...
I do two too.
Works on 0730-2000, normal for a busy bee like me.
Personal on 0600-2100, enough is enough innit.
I'm happy to answer work mails until 8pm normally because I'm working, after that and it'll wait. Rarely get bothered by missed calls and mails outside that time.
Personal phone is just that, a personal phone.
Two phones surely. Certainly what I've done for the last 10+ years.
2 for me
Work only phone now for all needs. Got fed up 2 phones, chargers electric and car.... I ain't a gangsta
I've also got two. Personal is backed up with all work contacts just in case things were to go tits up and I needed to call any favours in work wise.
Done, just ordered the £8 30-day plus net SIM. I'll see how I get on. If anyone wants 3x the data/calls/texts this offer is until 1st August.
I have 2, ones my work number, the other personal.
Even being Self Employed you need to get away so the work phone gets turned off. Still get E Mails and social media enquiries through to my personal phone from my business but I can cope with that as I can deal with them the day after.
Turning the work phone off stops messages coming through at 2am and people ringing at midnight. If they are disrespectful enough to contact me at that stupid o clock, I don't want their custom anyway.
I switched from two to one, ie personal phone only. I much preferred it. I rarely got out of hours work calls and if I did I would just take them. Being an asset manager means you cannot just switch off work as it's "out of hours", no such thing. Only issue was cost of work calls etc (esp abroad) which we could expense, itemised bill made that trivial
I've only had a work phone for the last 15 years (apart from a brief stint with a small emergency PAYG mobile I used to take MTBing). I rarely get called out of hours though and when I do it's just early evening on a weekday - I would prob end up with a second phone if I got over night/weekend calls.
Two phones for me, nothing worse than phoning someone and finding they are actually on holiday..
Switched from one phone to two about five years ago, and I much prefer it. Work mobile stays on my desk during evenings and weekends.
