Hi all,

I'm taking my mate's stag do to the International Sevens at Twickenham on May 11th and I'm looking for somewhere fairly close to the stadium for everyone to meet up... Kick off's at 9:30 and we're meeting about 9 (I know we'll likely miss the start, but hangovers will be involved.)

Any suggestions for where to meet and grab a bite of breakie? Will the Wetherspoons on the high street (The William Webb Ellis) likely be rammed on a match day even at that time? Or Carol's sandwich bar on the way to the stadium? (but it's a lot smaller and no beer!).

Any advice on the food/drink available in the stadium also gratefully received...

Thanks,

Chris.

Struggling a bit given your timing but I would suggest Church Street - a couple of mins from train station and 15 or so to stadium. I wouldn't worry about beer with breakfast as there will be plenty of other opportunities

I normally avoid the town centre on match days as it's mobbed but as this is early I think you'll be fine.

Food/drink in the stadium, plenty of options with bars and catering vans everywhere - not great quality but after a few beers you tend not to care too much

Get into the stadium and onto the Guinness, it's a stag do after all, or a old maids meeting?

Thanks Jambalaya: Anywhere in particular on Church Street?

I was mainly considering the early beer as a hangover suppresant to help us face breakfast, but there will indeed be plenty (too much?) opportunity to catch up later on if we don't go to Spoon's.

Ah, an exponent of the 'eating's cheating' philosophy I see Toby?!

We need to meet up before going in and as it'll be a long day a good feed will help more than hinder I think. But then I am a soft get.

@chr15 - let me try and find the name of the place (had lunch there a few times before match)- down the end on the right doesn't really help you 😳

EDIT: I am sure you'll be able to get Bacon Rolls etc in the Stadium and/or in the West Car Park - standard meeting point is by the rugby statues / gate in West Car Park, you don't have to meet in the town

Great beer, great burgers, and usually rather lovely barmaids! 😉

Terrace floods at high tide, though

Thanks gents, but the Sevens is a Saturday and starts in the morning (I guess most matches kick off early afternoon)... Greedies appear not to open on a Saturday at all and the White Swan doesn't open until 11:30.

Wetherspoons is still edgeing into the lead at the moment as it's not too far from the station in the wrong direction, opens early and, well, it's cheap isn't it!? (Needs to be to compensate for the £70 dinner later on...)

I ate in the Italian café on the old high st in Twickenham last week (I assume that's Chuch st, if not, apologies. I've noticed before it being busy & it really is good. I normally go to the deli opposite but it shuts at 3pm.

Also, I go to Sandys fishmongers by the traffic lights for oysters (they open them & serve them on crushed ice with lemon) - 75p each. You have to stand & eat them but they really are tops. I'd preorder them as I had the last 6 last week 1 day.

The Charm Thai in Teddington high st is v good but the owner seems really unhappy!!! (look on tripadvisor).

Hah, I went to the Double header game at the start of a season ago, the headache on the train on the way home after all day drinking was immense!

Given that it is a 'special' day locally you may find some of the bars opening in advance, but I'd not know for certain, good luck with it though, it'll be a great day out 🙂

Greedies is open on saturday, 10.30-9pm according to their website. Either way i second that recommendation. Be ready to park a way out and walk to the stadium, I work round the corner and they close the road around it so the traffic in all directions is mental. There is plenty of residential roads to park in.
Whitton High street is less than a mile from the stadium and has loads of coffee shops. Big Tesco with a Costa next to the stadium too.
