Looking at taking the camper & road bikes to the tweed valley for the weekend and need a campsite. Hopefully secure enough to safely keep a couple of bikes in the awning (out of sight) overnight, a decent pub and eating place within walking distance.

Any recommendations?

I see the edit function is still not working. - "...bikes in the awning (out of sight) overnight..." should clearly read out of sight...

There is already too much information on this thread. Road bikes, awning, campsite, off out for curry...

Can't agree with the recommendation above regarding the Traquair Arms - the food last week was appalling, especially considering what appears to be a price increase over the last wee while.

Shame really, especially considering it's only at the top of the road from me.

That's a shame. Has always been pretty decent up til' now. Although judging by their website which is a "free GoDaddy make your own crap", maybe they aren't keen to produce quality.

Has Peebles got decent food these days? When I last stayed there(granted 10 years ago), the option for an evening meal was either a so so Indian or cook for yourself.

Although with the food at Glentress being worse than a motorway service station, there is presumably more business going into the town...

Rosetta has been run down to dump status. I would avoid.

glad you said it rene59 because i was thinking it .

last time i was there it was a muddy slope with feral kids doing laps through folks tents.

as for leaving bikes in tents there - wouldnt be a relaxing night for me , not like peebles/tweed valley has the greatest reputation for bike theft from vehicles in the world .....

the campsite at glentress would be ok if it wasnt for the owner/caretaker guy being rather a rude man and ridiculously difficult to get a hold of.

The tweedside in inners one used to be a dive but ive been tempted in lately when ive been down there as it looks to have been taken over and modernised - or at least given a lick of paint and some new gates !

Stayed at Traquair over the weekend in the 'bikers' loft room. Burgers & beer were great, though was knackered by a full day on the trails in the baking sun though so maybe that clouded my thoughts somewhat, we were starving! Still, I'd go back for sure.

Thanks - just read the reviews of Rosetta - doesn't sound good. I've no interest in staying at Glentress - Won't be taking the mountain bike, too far to walk into town for a meal and definitely not going to be eating at the Peel again. Sounds like Innerleithen with dodgy food has it...

Worked for me, turned up on Saturday dinnertime after a days riding, no one in the office, tried again in the morning, still no one, had breakfast and a shower, still no one, packed up and went riding.

Stayed at Crossburn Campsite in Peebles last year over the May Banks Hols - it has the worst combination of permanent caravans, dirty toilets, over-flowing rubbish bins and 'families' a bit too keen on prosecco and letting their kids go a bit feral. Having spent the prior 3 weeks touring the north it came as a bit of a shock.

Groupon for the Cardrona? They're alway punting deals on there.

We've had a couple of weekends there on the cheap. Never taken bikes though.

Edit: Not a campsite obviously but by the time you've paid for a campsite and bought breakfast and dinner it might well be cheaper and nicer.
