Are they all created equal?
Just tried an old one I had in a drawer and it's made no difference
Thinking high gain may be required
Any recommendations?
You need a decent signal to start with, it can't replace what's not missing. We've got one in the loft from the internal loft aerial, feeding a few aerial sockets but it still cacks out on certain channels.
I blame the cheapskate previous owners for doing that instead of just putting an aerial on the chimney and using a proper masthead amplifier & dist. box. Our old house had that and it was great in comparison.
Better to have the camp near to the areal as possible as otherwise you have higher losses and are amplifying more noise where the signal has been degraded.
Basically you an the best noise to signal ratio possible before amplification.
