When I turn the volume up on my tv remote it keeps on going until it gets to the top I can hold it back by pressing down but eventually it'll go all the way the other way, it also does it with the direction buttons. Now I thought the TV was faulty but it's doing the same with my free sat box, both different remotes. Something is repeating the signal from my remotes several times what would cause this? Nothing's changed in my home.

Clean the remote will nail polish remover and a cotton bud get amongst those groves in the buttons, dead skin and grim makes them stick.

Reminds me of a service call where a customer's satellite signal was dropping out every minute, and then returning.

5 hours ripping everything apart, beyond any logical reasoning, but we just couldn't understand.

We were there so long, the chap had to go to shop to buy more milk for our tea, obvz.

Whilst he was out, it suddenly rectified itself. Result!

When he came back, fault came back.

It was the ******* tracker on his new car.

Take the batteries out of each remote in turn, see if the problem goes away.

Are you using HDMI with CDC? Does it still do it with the freesat box disconnected?

It's not the remote as it's happening to two different remotes one for the TV and one for the freesat box, both started doing it at the same time. Tv' pretty new too

Can the other remote 'see' the TV at the time? Any others in the area?

Point is, you've got at least four devices there, so you need to remove variables to narrow down where the problem is.

Still does it with freesat box disconnected, freesat box does it too and the TV still does it when using the buttons on the TV!! This is all very weird and what's CDC?? And yes using HDMI

Even if TV does it when operated by buttons, it could be as a result of one of the rogue remotes (you've eliminated the freesat box)

Stick both your remotes down back of the sofa and then see if TV still does it when operated by buttons.

what's CDC??

CEC, sorry. HDMI can pass controls between devices, so (for example) the freesat box remote can control the TV without the need to set them up first using some arcane Vulcan Nerve Pinch and a string of meaningless codes. So if the box is connected via HDMI, it might be sending control codes without your knowledge and confusing the issue.

I have in the past had issues with the IR emission of some types of energy saving bulbs, does the problem vanish when your lights are off? (Took bloody ages to sort that one out!)
