With the family being dispersed to far flung places we do a fair bit of FaceTiming etc and have always just used the iPad/iPhone which is fine but not ideal. The son has just got himself the Facebook tv portal jobby and I must admit it’s very good. No crowding round a small screen to get a look in and when the grandkids move about it follows them, you get the idea. Anyway are there any other portals which do the same job? I’ve googled but not found owt else.
Prop a phone up next to the TV, cast the phone screen to the TV. Done.
Hadn’t thunk of that!
If you have an Apple TV you can mirror the FaceTime screen of the iPhone/iPad onto your big telly (might be able to do it with Chromecast too?)
EDIT:beaten to it 🤣
The sound/video quality and camera tracking of the Portals is excellent.
My GF and I use the Mini versions. The prices are pretty high for what they are now though, they were cheaper earlier in the year...
The portal has no comparable competitors. Which is a shame, because I don't use facebook and I'd buy a generic version of it in a flash.
Casting a phone screen to the TV is our workaround, then we stand the phone in front of the sofa (on a little table, so not right over by the TV) to get the camera closer to us so the picture is a decent distance.
Thanks guys. I shall have a think about it.
isn't the echo show 10 a competitor (of the standard portal, not the tv one)?
it really depends what messaging service you're using - if other folks are on facebook, get the facebook one
