Ignoring the politics, will Sky Q work on my TV?   Ours is "full HD" for what its worth but 7yo, and I'm confused with all the Ultra speak...    Just need to know if installed we can watch it without needing a new TV.

Our TV is a Samsung UE42F5000AKXXU.

Help, I'm getting old...

Yes. As long as it has an HDMI input

This, you'll get HD but wont get Ultra HD.

"Full HD" is 1080p - ie, a screen resolution of 1080 lines.
"Ultra HD" is 4k - ie, a screen resolution of (somewhat counterintuitively) 2160 lines.

The Sky Q box can supply 4k but you can read that as "up to" 4k, it'll scale back to your TV's capabilities. You'll need a new TV if you want to watch in 4k, in the same way you'd have needed a new TV to watch DVDs in HD if you only had an SD TV.
