I have been messed around by Trojan Electronics, trading under the names of Tesco Outlet and Three Monkeys. First from Tesco I ordered a Plasma TV. It turned up shattered, then the replacement turned up shattered, then the 2 subsequent replacements were returned by the couriers before they even got to me as they were broken. Funnily enough there were no more TVs left in stock so I cancelled the order and got a refund.

Next I order from 3 Monkeys, who also turn out to be Trojan. The pattern is exactly the same, smashed TV arrives, swapped for another smashed TV, then today that is swapped for another smashed TV. Seriously, these things are arriving in the correct box, but with just a literal handful of polystyrene pieces scattered on the bottom of the box. There is NO WAY they would ever arrive in one piece.

I have voiced my displeasure to the Customer Services fella on the phone, and I'm waiting for a manager to call me back. So far we have had to wait in the house for 7 separate days, and will need to wait for an 8th to return the current box of bits. Should I pursue any kind of compensation for the inconvenience and disappointment of a saga that has been going on since April?

If these guys expect to run a business distance-selling TVs, surely they can't go on like this, or is it some kind of scam?

And can anyone point me in the direction of a 42" or 50" Panasonic plasma TV that is available?

There are many reasons to use John Lewis for any TV purchase. In fact, I'll never use anyone else again. Reading of woes like this cement that idea in my mind.

Shame you've been so royally dicked around, TW, but I suggest that you make your next stop John Lewis.

Surely just avoid that company completely and buy from somewhere you can inspect first?

Have you thought about reading a good book instead? Seems you and TV's just aren't meant to be.

Have you got a Richer Sounds nearby? That's who we always use for elecrtrickery stuff like this. They're great.

Another vote for Richer sounds, I had a problem with my Freesat box recently and they swapped it out no question, great customer service!

At least you won't have to spend money on a TV licence.

Sorry but I can't believe that you have had 5 TVs delivered and all 5 had smashed screens . Are you sure they don't just keep re-delivering the same TV .

Er, follow the advice of the above: John Lewis or Richer Sounds.

Absolutely certain they are different TVs. I cannot see how the business is viable if others have similar experiences.

Both TVs are 2014 Panasonic models, now discontinued.

Off to JL at next opportunity...

Next I order from 3 Monkeys, who also turn out to be Trojan.

That name alone would have rung very loud alarm bells as far as I'm concerned! 😯
And Trojan was the name of a particular type of male prophylactic, which might explain why you've been so royally screwed... 😉

Amazon are not too bad - as long as you buy the stuff from them direct - not one of the companies trading on amazon. Amazons customer services frontline can be a bit dozy but have always seen sense after speaking to their supervisors. But as been said before John Lewis are the best for customer service.

if you were buying a new ferrari and they were identical and the same price..would you buy it from a main dealer all the bells and whistles cups of coffee and leather seated waiting room or would you buy it from a lock up from a guy who just came only speaks russian?

Please tell me you used Paypal or a Credit Card. You will almost certainly be needing buyer protection.

All the advice to go to John Lewis because they price match is fair enough, if he was buying something that John Lewis sell.

But they generally don't sell discontinued products that are a year or so out of date. And currently they don't have any Panasonic Plasma TV's.

Have we explored the idea that the Panasonics may have been discontinued due to their suicidal tendencies?

In the true spirit of STW.

Ignore the request for information about something specific, and tell them to do something else instead.

I was looking for Panasonic Plasmas specifically. The availability was always going to be limited as they are out of production. The particular annoying element is perfectly good TVs that I wanted were being shipped so appallingly packed that they arrived broken.

I have reserved 2 TVs at JL to collect tomorrow, both C300B models, which are apparently rebadged Vestels. I will see what the picture quality is like before handing over the plastic.

3 Monkeys ebay purchase was PayPal.

IMO TV purchasing is more full of pointless innovation than mountain bikes. 4K? Really? The only 4K content currently available is the demo file built into the TV, and although very limited content is in the pipeline, the current (not fully adopted) standard of HD is only broadcast at 720p. I don't think we have the bandwidth for everything in 1080p, let alone 4K. 3D? Pointless with a total lack of adoption too.

I'm sorry if I misconstrued your advice - but if I'm right; at least the Russian speaking fella - might be calm following this..
