the quality of 80s music will likely see me take the afternoon off.

I was wondering if I had the right station on. I thought I was listening to some kind of Eurovision tunes.

Sorry, I know I'm spamming this thread but did anyone else on here used to go to Planet Earth in Newcastle on a Monday night? 🤣

Meh not overly enjoying it. Born in 86 so it's a bit before my time really. Some nostalgia from stuff I used to hear in parents cars when I was a kid.

Not listening but I bet it's full of Fields of the nephilim, red lorry yellow lorry and Balaam and the angel.
Or Eurythmics, Paul young and Alison ****ing Moyet

I was a kid through the 80s, and as soon as I got into music I was interested in 'real' music, which basically involved ignoring the decade entirely in favour of 60s blues rock and 90s onwards indie, dance and alternative. But more recently I've realised how much excellent music was around (duh!). Yes, some of it's cheesy, some of it's rubbish, but loads of music from the 80s stands up brilliantly.

I was born in 1970 so the 80s were definitively my decade of musical discovery and forming taste. Bought a lot of madness 7” singles with pocket money, then the jam, the cure, the smiths, lots jangly guitar bands. Pop music was often rubbish (as proved by bomb the bass just played on 6). Then 1989 and the best album of all time (TM) was released...

It’s 80s day on Wireless 6 until 7 o’clock tonight

If you listen to Absolute 80's, every day is 80's day! 😉
Plus it's better than the club 80's crap that 6 are playing right now.

Just when I thought 6music couldn't get any worse. There is tons of excellent music from the 80s and they choose Whitney Houston and the Pointer Sisters.

What has happened to that station? It used to be really good.

Come on they've had Madonna, BDP, NWA, Bad Brains, 808 State, Voodoo Ray, Slayer -

What's not to love amongst all the music?

Nemone played some great cheesy AF 80s tunes

And then MAH has played deep cuts and it's been amazing:
Bad brains, discharge, the clash, Graeme park mix, mc lyte, slayer!

Really impressed that's it's not gone supa cheese. The pop music day last week was a bit too Heart FM for me

What about these struggling new bands on the playlists that are getting frozen out though

6music worth the licence fee again for introducing Kitchens of Distinction to me last night ('railwayed' on Gid Coe)

Can't believe I'd never heard them before as it's right up my post punk avenue

Unfortunately I've had to actually do some work at work for the first time in ages so I've missed some admittedly banging tunes.

I did catch Big Black though. First time ever hearing that mellow jam about burning down your hometown on the radio.

Switched it on to find I've just missed the Happy Mondays.

So (hallelujah) perfect timing then.

Rock block? GnR, now Maiden. And the DJ least suited in the world to be going "let's rock this thing," I was more convinced by Matt Smith as The Doctor.

Damn but this guy is boring.

Where's he from? Sounds like a Wigginer.

Ah, he's from Leigh, I was right.

I used to know a transvestite from there. He had a wigan address...

Samuri is from Leigh (well he's not, but lives there now and has done for a long time). I'm not conflating anything there at all

Keaveny is one of the "love him or leave him" DJ's. Many love him. I've tried but I can't. I miss Radmac being on 6Music in the afternoons 🙁

So why are you wasting your time reading and posting on a thread about something you don’t like?

Is it any more of a waste of time than you posting about my posts on a thread about music?
