Weirdly i own about 600 vinyl records, but nothing to play them on (also happily found out what some of them are worth after having been in storage for 20 years, (Leftism worth £500-800!).

So i have managed to get her to agree we can get a turntable and small speakers for the living room, and i must admit i don't know much about decent hi-fi gear at all.

But i do miss listening to a full album from start to finish properly and the music being centre stage instead of just flicking through tracks streaming on phone, and i've a lot of vinyl i have not listened to in years.

Would this be a good combo to start with, turntable has built in pre/amp/amp and bluetooth and speakers get a good review?

Thanks Duncan, it was actually Richer Sounds reviews of that turntable and speakers that led me to thinking they seemed a decent quality and an easy way of getting what i needed without seperate pre-amps and amp etc..

Speak to the guys at Moorgate Acoustics in Sheffield (they ship anywhere in the UK). For that money a Rega P1, Rega Io and some small B&W speakers would I think better the Pro-ject system. The guys at Moorgate will see you right in any event.

Alternatively tap up the knowledge of the guys on the Audioshite Facebook group and see what they recommend as a killer secondhand system at that kind of budget. Again, will beat that Pro-ject system hands down.

Quick edit - the guys at Moorgate are in the store today so either phone or Facebook messenger - they are responsive either way and will not try to sell you a load of shit you don't need 🙂

If you want just a turntable and speakers then that's one solution, the other being active speakers and a 'regular' deck (with a phono stage in).

Depending on budget and audiophile quality you could do all sorts of things similar to the price above, or cheaper or more expensive. Audio Pro actives (via the outlet site) are well regarded. Personally I have a set of Ruark MR1's connected to a naff deck in my kitchen, they sound great streaming via a musiccast and with a third part switch they are also connected to the vinyl player.

If you want to go up a notch then a Project turntable and Kef active speakers would be my suggestion.

What do you listen to music on currently? I'd be inclined to link into that probably with a turntable that has the pre-amp and bluetooth, but not the amp. Or if it all sits together and trailing wires aren't a big issue, just a pre-amp and aux-in to what you have.

+1 Pro-Ject TT plus active speakers from Q-Acoustics/Dali/Acoustic Energy/Dynaudio/Kef to fit the budget.
Neat and tidy. You could also plug in a streamer for days when you can't get off the sofa.

I’d agree with the pro-ject tt recommendations and add that the audio tecnica offerings are worth considering

https://www.audio-technica.com/en-gb/turntables/type/direct-drive/at-lp5x

Speaker wise I’d suggest Klipsch the fives, they have a built in phono stage allowing a cheaper tt and also a hdmi with acr meaning that can easily be used as part of a minimalist av set up too.

Loving my Ruark MR1 speakers, I either stream to them from my phone or direct via optical from my CD player, they've also got aux in as well if you want to connect something else. Via CD is a noticeable improvement in quality over the spotify stream

I think the Leftism valuation is a bit optimistic!
Anyway enjoy them when you get set up

Yeah I'd say £30 for a good copy. Maybe £50 on a good day. Depends whether it's the 3 or 2LP version.
Discogs listing:
https://www.discogs.com/Leftfield-Leftism/release/76174

Upstairs I run a Project turntable into a mixer and then into powered studio monitors.

I had a mint copy of Leftism, bought it the day it came out but (sorry) never really liked it much.

Sold it via Discogs a few years ago, close to the £100 mark IIRC.

Sounds like you got a good price.
I always keep an eye on the median sale price on Discogs.
The lowest sold prices will be for muntered copies, and the high ones for something special (signed, promo/white label, etc.)

On the other hand, original copies on vinyl can only appreciate in value (well for the foreseeable anyway).
I view my collection as a nest egg of sorts. The good/rare bits are ripped to wav/mp3, and then kept in plastic sleeves. The rest is played gently, no DJing these days.
When I'm gone the girls will inherit it, and can sell it or listen to it, whichever they like.

Having catalogued it all on Discogs, I get a median value of nearly £13k!

Sorry the Leftism album is the 3 disc version still in cellophane, as i had a second copy of DJ'ing and the price was from a quick ebay search.. surprised still what some vinyl goes for, a lot of drum n bass 12" from early 90's going for £20-25 each..

Thank you for all the recommendations, lots to review and look at.

Sounds like you got a good price.

Just checked my Discogs account, and I am such a liar.

I was thinking of a Spiritualized album (same story though), which went for £110.

Just found Leftism on the shelves behind me, it is absolutely mint so looks like it should get £80ish based on median price.

That looks like my browser- STW & Discogs. Don Rendell ‘niiiice’
Oldskool/Jungle/early Dnb can do very well price wise.
Early 2000s LPs (all genres) often silly money as vinyl was on its arse and not many copies pressed, so you don’t need huge demand for prices to rocket.

You don't want to know what I got the Don Rendells for 😆
Not that I'm going to sell them, but I lucked out on those!

Lots of 90's/early 00's dance, D&B, Jungle, etc.
Got some early dubstep (e.g. an OG copy of Burial Boroughs) that's worth a mint now too.
Luckily I was always careful with my LPs even when I was DJing.

Elipson Prestige Facet 6B BT
+
Rega Planar 1 (or similar).

Not the most compact speakers but excellent sound stage. Built in phono, Bluetooth, optical & aux connections gives lots of options aside from the turntable.
Definite step above the Ruarks but then they are bigger.

I have a Pro-Ject turntable and it sounds great but the manual speed change can take some of the listening pleasure away by being a fiddly ball ache. It looks great too, but seriously looking at a more user friendly deck. If you switch between 45s and 33s a lot it is worth bearing in mind.

The setup linked in the op should be pretty good. Both turntable and speakers are from good established brands that have a reasonable track record of making good stuff.

I recon you are paying a bit if premium for the all in one setup. A entry level system of Project turntable, Cambridge Audio amp and Q Acoustic speakers could be had for ~£600 leaving a bit of cash spare for some decent speaker wire and interconnects and should sound a step better than the original system.

Rega P1, Cambridge Audio integrated amp and Q Accoustics speakers with decent stands would be my choice.

My son has this system and it's a joy to listen to.

Mine was probably < £1500 mostly used. Rega P3, Rega Elex-r amp, Naim Intro speakers, Pi streamer with Allo Boss hat dac. Sounds fantastic.

Very close to ordering a Pro-ject 3 with Bluetooth which I was going to connect via BT to a Sony HTZ-ZF9soundbar plus rear speakers, wife doesn’t want more speakers or cables.

Anyone done similar, how well does it work?

Technics SL1210 plus a pre amp into normal amp
And speakers. A thing of beauty. Bought off of here. As an old raver it’s the only option.

Thanks for all your comments, realised i have stepped into a rabbit hole when looking at hi-fi gear, although not as much as i think a vinyl addiction is going to cost me!

Ended up with from a combination from ebay, Richer Sounds sale and FB Marketplace with,

Rega P1 turntable with Rega Fono pre-amp/
Denon DM-41 system for CD/DAB/Bluetooth and to act as an amp.
Q Acoustics 3020i speakers and stands.
