I have been setting a stock alert for a wahoo turbo trainer which seem to immediately sell out and then appear on eBay with a £300 markup. Capital marketing or profiteering?
Weather is improving so my interest is waning.

I found trying to get hold of a trainer was a nightmare.... until I walked into my local Evans to collect the Jet Black I ordered from their website and found they had loads in stock that weren't on the site

Yup have noticed some folks just trying to make a profit from them now.
If u are on Facebook then follow all your local bike shops as most seem to be posting up when they get stock.
I know velocity 44 in Stirling just got some the other day. Worth a try.. if not then phone around a fee and put your name on the waiting list.

The Kickr 5 is back in stock at Wiggle and Sigma Sports. Ordered one last night and it’s being delivered tomorrow.

Tempted to flog the treadmill, not because I wanna make money, I just can't see us ever going back to one period of exercise a day, and that's why I bought it.

OH bought a fancy wheel off job and stuck the tacx vortex on eBay. It's heading towards what was paid new. Some are £200+ what a new one was from the shop.

We got a fancy direct drive smart one about a year ago. Just before we moved, I found the crappy old Tacx thing in the shed. On eBay & it went for more than it cost new, and it was falling to bits?! We were open about the state of it, yet it was a bidding frenzy. Weird. Could have got a much better new one that was in stock for less.

Saw a Wahoo kickr on eBay for £1600 - you'd have to rich/desperate to pay that.

When I was looking the Elite stuff did appear to be more obtainable. The Tacx and Wahoo stuff appears to be in more demand.

Buy direct from wahoo? I was looking a week ago and seen similar 2nd hand trainers going more than new and no stock anywhere in shops.
Bought a snap direct from wahoo site, shipped via courier in 4 days. Came from Netherlands I think but all duty and tax etc sorted by them.
Can't believe what people paying.

With the popularity of zwift people aren't going to be giving them away any time soon i reckon... I picked up an elite drivo unused for £450 ... guy was hard to get hold of on messenger as wasn't working apparently.... when I collected the next day he said he'd been bombarded with enquiries!

How are people finding the prices/sales of 'dumb' trainers? Just wondering if I do get a smart trainer whether it is worth flogging my dumb trainer to try and recoup some of the cost?

I really enjoy using my Kinetic Road Machine with the v3 data pod and for the level I am at I really don't see what a smart trainer would give me. I can still hit most of the intervals required in the various training plans and it is very accurate in terms of power measurement so works well with Zwift.

Depends how dumb your current one is I think but for me that's where the sensible money goes buying secondhand. Looking at the Road Machine they can be had for £200 or so and do 80% of what a full smart trainer will do...

As a pointer for the people looking on ebay: Facebook Marketplace is the place to look for things like this. The prices are nowhere near what they go for on ebay and there are plenty listed.

I posted a thread on here at the back end of last year about Facebook Marketplace being awash with decent bikes that had never been used, which people had bought at the start of lockdown, had been sat gathering dust for 6 months and were now flogging at daft prices.

I suspect come the summer it'll be the same with turbo trainers

I've been lucky enough to have been lent a direct drive smart trainer (thanks Kai!) but I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for one once the sun comes out again

what if you had to while away your 2 weeks mandatory asymtomatic isolation, and were banking on being able to flog it for £1500 just after? Not such a bad deal...

I've just bought a Zumo from Halfords. I even got a discount. I'll try it for a while and punt it on if it's not for me. I'm unlikely to make much of a loss.

My old Tacx was dumber and dumberer. Sold it last Autumn as using it was worsening an injury. Thirty odd quid iirc

I think you're being very optimistic about what summer will look like*.

The support has been excellent. The app is a bit pants if you want something flash but it does everything I'd want a "trainer" app to do**, all be it the interface is bloody clunky - it actually makes zwift's interface seem OK.

*other considerations aside we had a decade's worth of sunshine last March - June.

**some of it you have to pay for mind though most is covered on the free or included 3yr sub.

I’m selling an Elite suito if anyone is interested in avoiding an eBay frenzy.
Bought it a couple months back but decided sweating in the corner of our living room isn’t my thing.

Got really lucky last week. My girlfriend was at her parents house in Carlisle helping her mum care for her dad and we had been signed up to every stock notification for a Tacx Flow Smart trainer. She got one from a local shop in Carlisle, went straight on and got it. Picked it up the following day and the guy in the shop said they weren't supposed to receive it but it was on the delivery lorry. It was the only 1 and she got it. Shame I have to wait 2 months for an axle adapter, she can use it straight away as hers is QR.

Yep

Picked up a kurt kinetic rock and roll smart just before xmas for 165 quid .... that included postage at 40 quid !!

FB is much better for communicating with the seller ... for instance, mine originally didn't want to post, but i gave them a ring offered to arrange for a courier and by the next morning they were taking it to the local post office myselves.

good luck

Ordered mine direct from Wahoo. Was expecting it to take weeks, but it arrived in 4 days no problem.

The new bitcoin is weight plates - I bought 130kg two days before lockdown 1 for £150. I reckon I'd get about £1500 for the set today.

Having handed back an Elite Direto I'd borrowed I got an Elite Zumo from Halfords £529. Can't tell the difference to the Direto and it does everything I want. Can ride 'real roads' on RGT cycling for free and have been using their 8 week training plan which syncs to the RGT app. Spot on. The longer Tempo/Endurance sessions I try to do outdoors. The ERG mode makes intervals much easier to organise.

Beware of scams on FBook. I spotted quite a few when looking for secondhand.

I think you're right! I've been looking around for some and I think I'll just get some Kettlebells and/or something like a TRX setup instead. Ludicrous how expensive a weight training set up is likely to cost even using s/h stuff off FB.

If people on here are that interested I bought one of these in September "Wahoo
KICKR SNAP Smart Turbo Trainer" for £435. My free trails of all the Zwift and zwift-a-likes ran out about the same time as my enthusiasm.

Before I shamefully pitch it on eBay for £69,000,000 does anyone here want it for cost plus postage - or cost if you collect from Southampton?

I'd agree that the app is fairly basic but who uses the app that comes with a smart trainer? My personal experience of their support was brilliant. Last March they posted a replacement motherboard for my Elite Drivo 1 out to me within 4 weeks, despite the fact that they were all working from home (in Northern Italy) whilst all around was in the middle of Italian lockdown 1 chaos.

Well, my Tacx flux S isn’t on the way from them. There was a stock level error so they couldn’t fulfil my order, however they had a Flux 2 in stock that they helped a bit with the price, so fingers crossed that’ll be with me on Monday
