The Odious pig has left the building.I saw a report where it claimed Dominion may not receive all the $700m+ from Fox but I wonder if Tuckers removal was part of the deal. However it came about, it is a good thing though I fear he will be replaced by someone even more harmful so they can keep the high viewing figures!!

Only really counts if they get rid of Hannity and Ingraham as well.

Sadly I suspect he'll be snapped up by Newsmax, OANN the Daily Wire or any number of outlets in that grim little Right Wing Grift ecosystem.

Or he'll pop up screaming about being 'cancelled' and announce he's running for president. wish I was joking.

What do we reckon, on-air apology/retraction part of Dominion settlement, and Tucker refused to deliver it?

Tucker is in a somewhat tricky position since some of his emails made it clear he didnt believe the shite he was pushing.
So makes it questionable if the true believers would want to hire him.
That said since they are nutters who knows.

Oh, for a minute there I thought he'd died.

Imagine my disappointment.

There's a first time for everything with that statement and Tucker Carlson.
John Oliver will be over the moon with glee.

Dan Bongino, another odious presenter, has also been booted out by Fox.
Described by CNN online as a '...right wing bomb thrower'.
Arf arf.

Nope - no apology or acknowledgement of wrongdoing required under the settlement. Dominion won't care - the money speaks for itself.

Interesting titbit from the BBC News coverage:

"The case prompted disclosures of text messages that showed Mr Carlson's private views contrasted with his on-air output"

I interpreted that to mean he didn’t even belive his own toxic horseshit,

very much so. There were quite a few emails/text conversations revealed in the lead up to the trial which give a rather different picture to his public persona.
This for example.

"That's the last four years. We're all pretending we've got a lot to show for it, because admitting what a disaster it's been is too tough to digest. But come on. There isn't really an upside to Trump."

Washington post is reporting it was apparently his equally negative comments about fox news management which has led to him getting the boot.

The Bunker was suggesting that he owes his prominence to the slot he had on Fox, and they’ll just replace him with someone else.

He won’t get the same platform on a different channel.

It's a really nice case study of how to lose control of your own persona, though- all the way through the trump years, carson struggled to stay in front of the ever-more-extreme audience he was catering for, there were points where he was denounced as being part of the mainstream media 🙂 So once he was on the road to crazy, that was that, there wasn't any way back to near-crazy, it was all or nothing. Watching it was one of the few positive tradeoffs of the whole era, "Tucker goes places he did not plan to go"

Oh, for a minute there I thought he’d died.

I won't say that I wish the guy dead, but I'd really struggle to muster any sorrow on his behalf if/when it happens.

Spoiler alert: None of them do. Like GB News over here, Fox isn't a news channel. It's simply there to put out an endless stream of culture war bollocks that ends up being lapped up by the poorly educated, whilst being an echo chamber for the type of vapid right-wing populism that passes for Conservatism these days.

The settlement with Dominion isn't the end of the ordeal for Fox News either.

60% of Fox News shares aren't held by the Murdoch family which could mean a shareholders' revolt in the offering, even if insurance stumps up to pay for the $787m settlement, this could be only the beginning.

As for Carlson himself, he might find a refuge at OAN or Newsmax, but they too could be imperilled by legal action.

This quote is delicious:

Despite his self-proclaimed willingness to testify in court, [Rupert] Murdoch’s rambling, brutally candid, and self-incriminating answers in deposition raise questions over his judgment.

Remember who built Fox News from the ground up to be the monster that it has become.

That was mostly Roger Ailes who turned it into his own mini empire from pretty much its birth until he got the sack for sexual harassment.

From Vanity Fair - a long read but well worth it. Murdoch's judgement has always been poor, until now he's been insulated from the consequences of his own actions.

I am amused at reports that James Murdoch has made it his "life's mission" to destroy Fox News.

That 'monster' needs qualifying. Yes, they are the most watched cable news in the states but that's still only an average of 2.2 million viewers. That's in a USA of 330 million. For context ITV news at ten has the same number of viewers at 2.2 million and BBC News at ten 4.8 million viewers. UK only has 67 million people - a fifth. So in terms of percentage of the population ITV news is 5 times more watched and BBC 10 times more popular. Americans are not only internationally insular but also pretty uninterested in keeping themselves informed about internal matters - even from shite sources like Fox. The vast vast majority of Americans don't watch it, even the ****wits! I guess the argument today would be the actual news channel itself is largely an irrelevance - that's just a vehicle to generate short clickbaity soundbites for social media.

Not from his producers I assume  - Tucker only candidly expressed a dislike of Trump - his producer described the channel's entire viewership as 'Dumb Cousin ****ers' 🙂

It's always worth googling the individual in question's net worth when these things happen. Young Tucker is apparently worth $30m so he'll be just fine, there's no doubt a book deal and he'll find (lower paid) meeja grift work somewhere eventually. You can't keep a face that slapable off the telly...

The thing is Carlson's sacking is just the 'Dead cat' in all of this, the real headline is that Ol' Rupert has just had to slap down 700 million USD rather than go to all the way to a ruling. That ruling would effectively have said his news organisation, that he owns and bosses about, knowingly lied to their viewers and fed the propaganda narrative that the 2020 election was "stolen".

Having to Sack an, otherwise profitable, Gobshite to divert some attention from the massive (possibly treasonous?) lies he was employed to push, is an easy enough sacrifice of a pawn I'd have thought...

i have to be honest and admit to having no idea who tucker carlson is/was.

i presumed they were a character from grange hill or something.

i am not going to google who they are after reading a few comments as I'd rather not know tbh.

In context: From the WP. It's not *just* the number of viewers, clearly some of the shit propagated there has real-world consequences beyond the size of the viewer size.

Precisely. ABC News here. "Knowingly" here is pretty damning.

His future options aren’t limited to the media. He’s effectively been setting the agenda fir the Republican Party for a while now

and it’s not out of the question he’d run for president

There are another half dozen news and media organisations and private individuals that dominion are in the process of suing.

OAN and Newsmax are in that list. And now Fox has lost/settled, the others *should* be checking down the back of the sofa for all the cash they can possibly raise. Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell and Mike Lindell should also be making sure they've got a bit of ready funds in the bank.

TBH, i would have been that surprised if he'd gone out of a 2nd or 3rd floor window. (No higher, wouldn't wish that on anyone)

Nah, He's fine monologuing to the believers through a camera, I can't see him doing well in a debate where his opponents actually answer back, plus he's utterly fudged his chances by speaking (typing) ill of the great orange one...

He'll be rehabilitated on the Daily Wire or something, little Benji Shapiro will commission Tucker to make "documentaries" or something.

They did tweet him offering a job.
Not sure its trolling so much as trying to recruit the perfect candidate.

Most likely explanation….

Rupert Murdoch was perhaps unnerved by Carlson’s messianism because it echoed the end-times worldview of Murdoch’s ex-fiancée Ann Lesley Smith, the source said. In my May cover story, I reported that Murdoch and Smith called off their two-week engagement because Smith had told people Carlson was “a messenger from God.” Murdoch had seen Carlson and Smith discuss religion firsthand. In late March, Carlson had dinner at Murdoch’s Bel Air vineyard with Murdoch and Smith, according to the source. During dinner, Smith pulled out a bible and started reading passages from the Book of Exodus, the source said. “Rupert just sat there and stared,” the source said. A few days after the dinner, Murdoch and Smith called off the wedding. By taking Carlson off the air, Murdoch was also taking away his ex’s favorite show.

It's trinkets they're after, the golden variety, studded with diamonds.

What exactly she needs to do for them leaves little to the imagination. But I'll wager her christian upbringing meant being on her knees was well suited.

Just read this report over on HuffPost. Why am I not surprised he could also be offensive in private!!

"Fox News executives and board members were stunned after the company’s lawyers shared details of private messages from Tucker Carlson that featured deeply offensive, crude remarks, The New York Times reported Wednesday.
Fox lawyers uncovered the messages while preparing for the company’s defense against Dominion Voting Systems’ defamation lawsuit, but the top brass only learned of them a day before the trial was set to begin."
