I believe it's 'jogging' or 'yogging.' it might be a soft j. I'm not sure.

Email went round at work, anyone fancy doing this, I thought it looked fun so signed up. Just need to figure out how to run now. I've got 3 months.

Any tips for a slim but unfit bloke who's only regular exercise is a 4 mile (each way) bike ride to work 3 times a week?

I've seen people doing it. It's like football, but without the ball and other players. They look ridiculous. Don't do it unless you enjoy being laughed at by passersby.

I think you need to hire a bouncy castle for a few weeks to get in training for that event.

Yogging? Running while eating a pot of Activia.

You'll probably be fitter than most of your colleagues.

Running hurts, and it hurts even more when you're fit but your muscles aren't used to running.

Don't call it yogging or people will know you don't know what you're doing. It's Scandinavian so it start with a hard 'd' sound, people will look at you with respect if you pronounce it right.

5k? Go for it. I put a pair of trainers on for a run for the first time in 25 years a couple of weeks back. It was miserable and genuinely hurt within a minute. But... that was it for the pain, it kind of reached an awful but tolerable level and stayed there, you can sort of just ‘keep going’. Managed to run over 5k and at no point was it anything other than tedious, but doable.

I reckon a lot of people aren’t actually used to the physical feeling of exerting effort and quit early. If you’re used to the feeling of being knackered from cycling just keep going...*

*I have no actual experience or expertise, obvious answer is start gently and build up to it.

I did this last year. It was a right laugh, would definitely recommend.

Most people were doing it in groups of workmates, friends, whatever. This event is not going to attract any serious runners. I'd say 95% of people just walked between each obstacle so do not worry about your fitness AT ALL. Even if you want to run it, you don't need to be able to run for any more than about 5 mins at a time (if that) as there will probably be a little queue at each obstacle or you can stop for a breather before/after,

If you do want to run it then IIRC 3 months is long enough to do Couch 2 5k (which is great, I did that when I took up running). If you do that you will be in the top 5% at the event, guaranteed!!

no pain no gain. do 10 minutes yogging to warm up, find a short hill (50-100m) and run up it a few times - start with 3 or 4, increase each week up to 8 and go harder as you get used to it. 10 minutes yogging warm down. 5k will be a breeze.
