Trugoy, one of the founding members of De La Soul has passed away at just age 54
Loved De La Soul back in the day. Pretty young. 😐

Sad news, 3ft was/is a classic
Sad news especially as their back catalogue is about to go live on streaming services
54, for some reason I thought they must be older. Can still remember being 15-16 and hearing '3 feet.....' for the first time, magic tunes. RIP Trugoy
Gutted. DLS were a big part of my musical "development" and 3ft high and rising is a bloody masterpiece. RIP Dave 🙁
Check out Bulhoone Mindstate, their best and most underrated album imo. i just listened to it, and it still sounds great.
One if the best hip hop groups out there. They have only just uploaded there back cataloge to streaming service.
Rip
Yeah, 3ft high was huge ... and 54's too young
Who’s going to give me a haircut now!
Mase, Pos & Me
and that's the Magic Number
wicky wicky wicky wicky 1, 2, 3
Definitely agree it's really sad news. A key part of one of the most exciting hip hop groups.
I managed to see them 3 times. Twice at Tramlines, here in Sheffield. Once as they were the second warm up act for Gorillaz on their Plastic Beach tour, in Manchester. We nearly sold our tickets to that gig, as we (my wife and me) were knackered. Very glad we didn't. De La were worth the ticket price on their own. Magnificent artists.
RiP.
Sad news, and far too young.
They had a short tribute to him yesterday on Johnny Vaughan's show on RadioX - I'd never really thought about it, but De La Soul were quite a groundbreaking act, in that they were the first rap/hip-hop group to not be either gangster or political. I'll certainly be having a listen to them later.

True, though I thought that their later stuff had gone a bit more towards a 'generic' hip hop style.
Their original style was ground breaking.
I loved 3ft high was great, I think there were a few flower power hip-hop artists that followed their path in the early 90’s (hippie-hop) It was a style of hip/hop that appealed much more to me than most of the genre.
Brought in the Daisy Age of hip hop, which made a huge change from the bragging and OG shit. I think their legacy lives on in all the cool, underground hip-hop that's still around and is most of my listening these days. Stuff like R.A.P. Ferreira, Open Mike Eagle, Aesop Rock, Billy Woods etc etc probably wouldn't exist without them.
Sad, so young. RIP

Aw shit. 🙁
Still listen to them - saw them last live in 2019. A great artist amongst great artists.
Aw man. It feels like so many not-that-old rappers are passing away. I have absolutely loved De La since 3 feet, according to iTunes I could listen to them for 9 hours 52 minutes!
I was lucky enough to see them at this weird event in Bristol a few years ago, a sort of music / BBQ event. Dave shouted at one point "You guys picked the best day to some and see us! You know why? Because it's a Saturday!"
Sad news indeed
Buhloone Mind State is one of my favourite albums and I still regularly say various lines from 3 Ft High to myself
'Sony walkmans keep us walking De la Soul can help you breathe'
I just realised, I am currently in the Philippines scuba diving, last time I came here Keith Flint died, if I come here again in future I should send a message to all the artists I loved in the 90's to stay close to medical facilities (apart from Jay Kay, he can't **** off and die soon enough).
