what a show, ep4 is superb. shaping up nicely this. get it watched if you haven't started! 🙂
Have been doing my best today not to watch it, just about to go in for a TWD, TD double. 🙂
You're in for a treat! Outstanding tele!
What channel, and when?
Just watched episode 4 last night: outstanding. I have to say, its making a lot of shows look like a load of amateur nonsense.
CZ: it's HBO in the US, airs Sunday night, so you can pick it up Monday morning.... erm.... from a number of websites.

What channel, and when?
Starts on Sky Atlantic, 22nd of February, 9pm.
Not heard of this but now I'm intrigued.
erm.... from a number of websites.
Just found one 🙂 that has this and about 150 other shows! Thankfully I only have the time to watch the odd episode here and there.
yep - great, great show
Had to rewatch the closing sequence from ep 4 immediately it was so good - 6 minute continuous steady cam shot
Pretty good show all in all. Just about to watch Ep 5 🙂
Their first suspect is a right freak - looks like the result of an unholy communion between the lead banjoist of the Hillbilly Pig Buggerers and a weregimp.
Sky box set and ready to record. Really looking forward to this series.
Just watched ep5. It's shaping up, getting more intense.
Love the lighting, the music. It's awesome.

Agreed, new game of thrones starts soon - not sure I can be bothered with it now I'm hooked on TD.
It's my favourite show on at the mo... McConaughey and Harrelson are both terrific.
Wife and I have given up on a few shows recently, but this is a keeper 🙂
Just watched Ep 6. Dark. Real dark.

Just watched Ep 6. Dark. Real dark.
Well having only got as far as 4 so far I was wondering how they could keep going. Down to the pits of Hell it is them - Can't wait 🙂 Though one thing I can't see is how to hit the usual quota of 5 seasons - maybe the new rule is do one and do it well.
Only watched a couple of episodes (recording from Sky Atlantic). Excellent stuff. McConaughey and Harrelson work so well together. I've always been a big fan of both and I'm glad to see McConaughey get back into roles like this and Dallas Buyers Club (in which by all accounts he is excellent, even though I haven't seen it) rather than some of the rom com shite he'd been doing. Nobody does southern drawl like those two. 🙂
No chance of there being another season. It's all about what happened in '95 and '02. Like you say, do one and do it well.
Watched Ep 6 last night....... blummin amazing. Mrs Batfink is hooked as well.
Apparently (might have read it around here somewhere) "true detective" is a theme/format/style - subsequent seasons are going to have different characters in different cities etc etc.
I have to say, not sure how they are going to follow MM and WH - hopefully they are setting the standard for who comes next. As long as it's not Nicolas bloody Cage.

Interesant. But S2 and beyond would have to go some to live up to S1, especially bringing in new characters etc.
It's all about what happened in '95 and '02
not seen ep 6 then? 😀
Nothing on IMDB about any more which is my normal go to for "it's going to happen" stuff
not seen ep 6 then?
I refer my honourable friend to 8 posts back 😉
EDIT: That's the limit of my spoilerising.
Only watched the first episode on Sky atlantic but It's fair to say Im hooked. Also add Ray Donovan and Southland to the recent crop of top notch US dramas and you can see why folks rave about U.S Tv.

ok, fair enough!
Not exactly the BBC news website, but:

So many levels going on in this, Soon as ep 8 is finished I'm going to watch the lot again! 😀
looking like 7 and 8 are going to be explosive!
Yep - reckon the last 2 episodes are going to be huge
Definitely going to rewatch the whole thing after the season is done
I love the fact that subsequent seasons will feature different plot, setting and characters - it means anything could happen to any of the characters in this season
So it's an 8 episode series then?
Quite unusual for a US series, it means they had a full story from the beginning rather than writing the first few episodes and waiting to see how it does before completing the plot.
I have been waiting for it to finish so I can mainline the whole series in a weekend.
Best TV show I've watched since Breaking Bad. Really enjoying it. Wondering how it can all get tied up nicely with only two episodes left though...
Ep 7 now available 🙂
Also add ... Southland to the recent crop of top notch US dramas and you can see why folks rave about U.S Tv.
How many times do I have to mention Southland? It's on the last series now, I think. Brilliant stuff.
Watch e02 last night. It's tense. Well acted. Gripping stuff.
With that to watch and the second season of Banshee to get through.... Some decent TV for a change.
Banshee was a just one writer's big wnak fantasy I thought. Atrocious.
I didn't know anything about this series until a friend of mine from school posted a very long steady cam shot from episode four on Facebook. It's over six minutes long.
Turns out he is the (steady)cam operator for the show and that long take in episode four is his work.
Pretty cool huh.
I knew when I saw the intro with The Handsome Family singing Far From any Road...that it would be amazing...and it is...

Oh yeah! Absolutely loving it, a superb piece of work. Just exactly the sort of thing that Rennie and Brett would jump at having one of their songs attached to.
Can't resist:
I've watched episode 8 today and without going into detail spoilers etc but I feel let down.
Conclusion to the case was great I just felt that the post case mop up was unnecessary anyone else feel the same?
It's been great TV but ending came off as Dexter weak (ok not that bad but weak) instead of Breaking Bad awesome.
Was Ep8 the final episode??
The Yellow King, mentioned in the programme, is available from Amazon for Kindle for free; it's actually called The King In Yellow, by Robert W Chambers.
Yep Ep8 is final episode.
Spoiler alert but this was on one for the other forums I go on
Six Minutes Of Madness – Most Incredible One Shot Scene Ever? (NSFW/Spoiler)
didn't thnk there was anything weak about it at all really, story was always about them 2 as characters as opposed to breaking open some massive conspiracy(that lots of people have be talking about online ). quite liked the last few lines of dialogue. after all the darkness, a kinda uplifting note to leave it all on imo.
Just started watching Ep 8 now.
It was just that last scene really I'd have prefered it without the uplifting note just feel it would be braver to end without it. I'd rather be left feeling slightly raw than feeling warm and fuzzy.
Sort of like how Disney sanitized Cinderella in the original tale the ugly sisters cut their feet down to size to fit the slipper but are given away by the blood and face a gruesome execution. I don't want to get too specific cos it'll give too much away but I felt ideas explored in earlier episodes were sanitized by the last scene.
Other opinions available and equally valid 🙂
All opinions are valid, I just thought it was good that the 99.9% of darkeness in the show was balanced out a tiny wee bit at 0.1% at the end 😆
I thought the ending was bang on with just one exception. Won't elaborate here due to spoilers. Having said that, it is in fact made somewhat (or maybe totally) possible/plausible when referenced by one of the lines 2 mins from the end.
Alan Pardew could pick up a few pointers from Ep8
Hmmmm, watching it tonight.
I've been watch House of Cards (US version) over the last week..... late to the party I know, but that's really good.
Spoiler alert but this was on one for the other forums I go on
And the guy who did the steady cam work was a guy I was at school with 🙂
Great show, really enjoyed it, there was something about ep8 that just felt a bit off, sort of rushed, like I said though, still great.
seen ep1 but have the remaining 7 downloaded for the weekend whilst I'm stepdad sitting.
I watched the first ep loved it so I "cough cough" found the rest and watched it in one go from start to finish. good tv and cracking performance from woody .
I have to say I could not have watched on a week by week format.
Hmmmmm loved the entire series. Best thing on TV for a while.... But.... Last episode was a little weak. Bit of a let down...... Apart from the dialogue between russ and woody. Awesome show... I think the ending was always going to be a let down.
+1 watching it one go, best way : )
Watched it this weekend, and found it a bit disappointing. Never seemed sure if it was driven by the plot or the relationship between the two main characters and somehow fell short on both counts.
Ultimately the mystery just wasn't as "clever" as the scene that was set, the cinematography created the tension and mood, but the script failed to match.
Woody Harrelson was also at best average in it, he was completely out acted by Mcconaughey. That alone just lead to wishing they had spent more time exploring Rust's dysfunction and back story than they did, and given Harrelson less screen time.
It is good, but it doesn't come close to living up to the hype and fawning that has been lavished upon it.
Alan Pardew could pick up a few pointers from Ep8
😀
just finished watching it and im in the same camp. very good, well acted, but i got lost in parts, sometimes cos i just couldnt make out what had been said in that quiet, southern drawl.
very good indeed tho, it was the acting and atmosphere that made it, as i didnt think the story was really up to that much.
Woody Harrelson was also at best average in it, he was completely out acted by Mcconaughey
I thought they balanced each other very well. Two characters of Rusty's stature would have been overwhelming.
Alan pardew 🙂
So, Colin Farrel and Vince freaking Vaughn! I thought Mcconaughey was useless until he did TD so I'll 'try' and keep an open mind.
Colin Farrel is a good actor. S'all in the eyebrows.
Been watching 'Gomorrah' in the meantime? Abloutely brilliant.
Have not seen that.
Yeah Farrel is good but can Vaughn play anything besides annoying? Will Ben Stiller be the bad guy? 😉
Oh FFS ,Vince 'made of wood' Vaughn.
I won't be watching .
oh sweet jezus
After the success of the first season, you'd think they could get somebody better than that pair of jokers.
is disappoint
Vince freaking Vaughn!
OOoooof! The man who hasn't made a decent film since Swingers.
...apparently the new director did the Fast and the Furious films. Although, he is only doing a couple of episodes. Several directors on board for the season.
Harumph.
Don't know as I'd know either of them if I fell over them. I saw "Vince Vaughn" and thought "oh, the guy who did Breaking Bad?" ...
You don't know who Colin Farrel is?
Its' probably fashionable to not like him as he's a bit of a celeb. Brilliant in Tigerland and that there one that Jamie posted, amongst others.
