Having problems with our cooker. The gas pressure seems to fluctuate so you start cooking on a decent flame but it often reduces after a while.

Put both ovens on and a couple of hobs and the oven goes out completely.

It seems to be getting worse, and with all the family round at crimbo I don't want to kill them off with half cooked Turkey. Well not all of them anyway.

Any ideas what might cause This? I'm not sure whether to ring my gas shipper or a domestic appliance guy.

Sounds like either a pressure or flow issue.

Pressure = supplier
Flow = plumber who can do gas.

If it's a 15mm pipe into the kitchen it may not be big enough for the number of rings/oven you have.

I'd get a plumber in - they can pressure test and also advise on pipework.

Has anything else changed inside the house recently that might have affected the gas supply - new boiler?

Do you also have gas central  heating?

Supply pipe from the meter to the house might be undersized and the boiler is first in line ?

New boiler about 5 years ago and we got the cooker about 18 months ago. But cooker is like for like the old one - same double oven 4 hob. And boiler is more efficient so no increase in gas use.

Odd that it gets worse (assuming on it's own rather than just as you switch on more rings) but as above I'd get a plumber in first to test it

Before you do any of that check your supply valve(s) is (are) fully open. Also check your cooker when you know the boiler is off to see if it happens then.

"boiler is more efficient" doesn't mean it doesn't draw more gas at full power. In fact it may mean the reverse.,,

As in not even the pilot stays on?

Either way, Gas Safe engineer should be the one you call. They'll be able to check things both at the meter and in the house: correct supply pressure, appliance working pressures, correct pipe sizes, see if the injectors are blocked, that kind of thing. Gas supplier will look at the meter only and likely cap it if you say there's a problem. They're not interested in what happens past the meter, only that there's no potential for gas-related incidents.
