What a complete and utter waste of time, effort and money. Surely one of the most pointless events ever held in this country.

Why persist in such stupidity? I mean, no-one even looks like they're actually enjoying it, the music's crap and it must be stressful for all those horses. Not kind.

Still, a very effective advert for the pointlessness and uselessness of the Monarchy I spose. All that gold and silver, when there are how many children living in poverty in this country?

Bring forth Madame La Guillotine....

All of it 'in your humble opinion' of course.

You'd hate not being in the minority wouldn't you? You'd have nothing to rage against.

I think it's frigging hilarious and worth every penny, get to watch a load of chaps wandering around aimlessly (well, that's how it looks to me sometimes), the anticipation of someone fainting or a horse flipping out or a trumpet sounding of f key :D. I'm desperate to see a streaker during it one year, and the Duke looks like a nob with that stupid hat on. I also love the queen, she's ace. But, other than the above I also think it's completely pointless and a waste of money.

What a completely enjoyable use of troops and resources currently not employed elsewhere. Surely one of the most interesting displays of nationality and pagentry in the country.

Its great to see such tradition last in a world of otherwise consant change. It's impressive how despite the pride of being involved they remain straight-faced throughout and the horses remain as well trained as ever.

Still, a very effective advert for the tradition, Britain and the Monarchy I spose. All that gold and silver, being used rather than sitting around doing nothing.

I'm sure everyone involved has been cut to the quick by your harsh review of proceedings. I guess not everyone can appreciate the precision of the whole ceremony or the traditions it carries with it.

Well, I would try to explain it to you but I fear your narrow little mind wouldn't be able to cope with such concepts. It is beyond your comprehension, but fear not; lots of other people are fortunately cleverer than you and can understand such things. Isn't that nice?

Ooh look, Woppit's about to lose and have to resort to childishness:

I know TT, grown men will be sobbing in the corner and have changed their opinion immediately on reading my post. I'm just awesome I know, feel free to disagree with me if you like, I won't judge you. Much.

I'm kinda with the mintman thinking on this one anyway, they are always impressive shows, I have no idea how those guys do it, I get confused turning around in my bedroom and to date I've never seen anyone faint or floop up. Shouty man is also always impressive and even the horses manage mostly to not poo for most of it 🙂

And before you take the time to retort TT, I'm really more of a blackadder/only fools and horses kinda gal than a britains got talent...

What about Grand Designs, Emma?

Hang on; the horses have a military rank? Meaning lower ossifers have to salute them and obey the horses' orders?

😆

Weren't it Caligula what promoted his horse to a general or something?

He slept with his close relatives too...

The Army is all about tradition and the regiment is central to it all. The trooping the colour (in history) is all about showing the regiments colours (flag to us ) and this is very important to the regiment . What you have to remember is that the Army is all about regiments and they fight for the regiment firstly and queen and country second.

If the tourists love it all the better we need the cash 🙂

Some people like a connection to the past and perhaps where they come from. Perhaps you don't celebrate any festivals, religious occasions, high days or holiday. Many people do and some of them like that they came from some time that was before their own. If your way was undertaken, we'd have little in the way of culture, history or a sense of where we as a nation came from - quite bereft of many interesting things. Your comments on military equipment are slightly dated to say the least.

I was talking about scrapping the TtC, not destroying all culture. Typical over-reaction from the hard of thinking... 🙄

Such 'traditional' military parades are little more than an attempt to gloss over the reality of war. Shiny buttons not mud, blood and guts.

Why not have all those heroes who've lost limbs etc, in the parade? Y'know, those brave people who've sacrificed their mobility for Queen and Country?

Or maybe they'd look a bit 'unsightly', and scare the tourists?

Many injured troops attend All state functions fred, the rememberence parade is for that reason. Fred, do some military service then comment about it, please do not assume anything about what you have no knowledge of, humility and respect not negativity and ignorance please.

No, no ... they are meant to put maggots in their place. Crush them like jelly. Let their guts spill out like strawberry jam.

Why not have all those heroes who've lost limbs etc, in the parade? Y'know, those brave people who've sacrificed their mobility for Queen and Country?

They have all happily retired and shall never be forgotten ... in the meantime the able bodied will step on those maggots.

Or maybe they'd look a bit 'unsightly', and scare the tourists?

Nothing "unsightly" of but able bodied is better at stepping on those maggots.

Elfinsafety - Member

Amazing, Chewkw! Should I admire China and North Korea then? Cos they've got really impressive military parades..

You should bow down then lay your body to be stepped on. All those who wish to gain independence from Dear Leader should be crushed like jelly ... nuking is better.

😈

Your logic did not appear to be specific to this - more a broadside against anything you did not give value to:

Outdated pointless 'tradition' much like most aspects of the Monarchy. Doesn't serve society in any positive way, keeping hold of it. Time to get rid.

If you don't mean to be so generic, don't write such open statements.

Such 'traditional' military parades are little more than an attempt to gloss over the reality of war.

No they are not. They are parades with meaning that goes way back - your lack of knowledge gives rise to your bombastic statements.

Shiny buttons not mud, blood and guts.

Why not have all those heroes who've lost limbs etc, in the parade? Y'know, those brave people who've sacrificed their mobility for Queen and Country?

It is not and never was a military reenactment - it is a parade. It is part of the military tradition. Other parades are available etc.

Fred, do some military service

No thanks. I'm a bit old now anyway. Don't think they'd have me. 😀

You speak of 'humility' in reference to the Monarchy? I suggest you go find out what the word actually means.

And you call me 'ignorant'?

No they are not. They are parades with meaning that goes way back - your lack of knowledge gives rise to your bombastic statements.

Trooping regimental colours was something done so's certain regiments could be recognised on a battlefield. No longer necessary as we have clever technology and that now. So, TtC is completely redundant.

Today's military doesn't fight in fancy uniforms with swords, does it? So, get rid. No need to continue wasting money. And don't compare military parades with Culture please. Thanks.
