I've been trying to track down the source of a peculiar strong maple scent, a scent that evokes strong but forgotten childhood memories and have decided that it probably comes from the Buddleia plant.. could anyone confirm this..?

Since I've come to this conclusion I've noticed that this bush is absolutely everywhere..

May I be the first to quote you out of context and infer a smutty innuendo?

that this bush is absolutely everywhere..

Buddleja does have a sweet smell, maybe honey, maybe maple. And yes it grows everywhere - you'll see that bush sprouting out of lots of cracks in walls.

it's a really rich dark smokey maple smell that I associate with it.. almost overpowering..
it doesn't come from the flowers but always seems to be around where these bushes are present..

Salt water applied via a hose pipe, that did for the triffids. Keep your buddleia, butterflies and bees love it and they need all the help they can get right now.
