anyone done this? heading off on Sunday and we are intending to do the walk from Peurto Pollensa to Soller that takes around five days
Any tips if you have been? Water availability? Mountain huts?
I did 3 walks 10-12 mile long from Palma Nova North up into the hills in June a few years back & was getting through a litre of water an hour as the temp was high 20's @ 0800 & mid 30's before midday.
I got my routes from HERE
Thanks
There is a hostal in Pollenca Old Town used by walkers overnighting.
(Near the Roman Bridge).
Not many villages between there and Soller. Few road cafes. I'd be carrying a lot of water.
Im in Cala st Vicente just now only 23°due to a strong North wind but the sun so strong and i think you will need lots of water and sun protection. Nice walking but tough at this time of year unless 6am to 10 then hide until 5pm. No getting in the sea today red flag out
Its a waymarked ( sort of) trek with mountain huts to overnight at. Being limestone ( I think) there may be springs but I don't know - yes we will be kitted to carry 5l of water each!
A few years ago we tried to climb a summit on Crete. Set of with 7l of water for 2 of us. Only had two left halfway up so had to bail out
I will have my panama hat!
Yeah, we did the GR 21(?) about 4 years ago. It was really nice with accomodation options in towns and villages along the way, although we did a bit of wildcamping as well.
We were able to catch a bus to our starting point(Somewhere near Andratx) and back from puerto pollenca.
We used the local versions of the gites d'etaps for 3 of the nights, 2 had private rooms, one was in a big dorm, near port soller. Campsite at the big monastry also.
Water was an issue, I think we always carried a couple of litres each out of every village, but we used some water from an ancient arabic cistern on one of the camps. Gave it good boil, wouldn't of wanted to drink it un treated. Paddy Dillon's Cicerone guide might be worth getting.
Did some epic walks in Mallorca from the Walk! Series of books. When they say they're tricky they are truly challenging with real exposure. Not sure any use to you on a linear walk though.
Thanks
You can tell you’ve bloody turning up tomorrow Uncle Jezza. I think you’re right about being the kiss of death for the weather!
Riding north up the coast from Cala d’Or this morning it bloody rained on me! Rained! I was suitably outraged, obviously.
Actually, it was really refreshing 😃
Lovely again now, mind. Forecast is 28 for tomorrow
The red Rother walking guide to Mallorca has the GR221 (of which your route will form part) broken down into stages with useful information given for each leg.
We did the walk down from Lluc to Pollensa last October on I guess what was originally a mule track. It was pretty dull TBH but there was plenty of shade.
From PP you’ll need the bus up to P and the set off from the Roman bridge.
Have fun.
We were there in March of this year, did the gr221 from Valldemossa to Lluc Monestry, over 4 days, plus the Puig de Balitx (in Soller) and the Torent de Pareis gorge.
The mountain hut is after Soller so you’ll miss this. Plus the hardest day on the gr221 was from Soller to the only mountain refuge, around 22km long with 1250m ascent.
Valldemossa to Deia is 15km long with 700m ascent, it will take around 5hrs to do.
Deia to Soller is also 15km but only 430m ascent, and will also take around 5 hrs.
I haven’t done the initial bit you are doing.
On reflection the truly epic walks we did were in La Gomera in the Canaries. The Mallorcan ones were mainly well pathed except for one out from near Cala San Vicente to a penninsula, up goat paths above huge cliffs.

Yup - happens every time I try to go walking abroad. Been rained on in slovenia, France ( x2), Italy and every time the norm for the time of year was no rain! We even got rained on in the canaries. the first rain for 7 months!
I've been on sections as part of other walks. Can't add a lot to the thread other than saying it does seem to be pretty well way marked. Have a great walk.
If anyone sees a slightly hungover swedish woman playing tennis tomorrow, that's my wife, please say hi from me and tell her i have spies everywhere 🙂
