We've been invited to a wedding in Cairo, happening in a couple of weeks. The plan is to spend a few days in Sharm El-Sheik with the bride & groom-to-be for some winter sun, then head to Cairo for the wedding and some sightseeing. All sounds lovely. However I've got a few Israeli work visas stuck in my passport. I'm in the process of getting a 2nd passport anyway but this won't arrive before we leave for the wedding. There's nothing on the UKFCO website recommending no travel to either Sharm or Cairo for UK citizens, and as far as I can tell Egypt <> Israel tourism is a relatively common thing, but given the amount of anti-Israel sentiment in the world at the moment I'm wondering if what's in my my passport might cause an issue.
Would you travel to Egypt at the moment under these circumstances?
Yep Egypt is one of the few Arab countries to have "normal" relations with Israel, so I'd be extremely surprised if it causes you any issues.
The question in your last sentence is a bit broader than the passport stamp one. I'm feeling pretty gloomy...
The FCO advice for the Sinai peninsular varies but the southern tip is geographically far enough away from the worst excesses, including the occasional misfired munitions. The war isn't IMHO the issue, it's the reaction of local groups and, like you, I'd be wary.
The fact that you posted speaks volumes, but only you can decide
I probably wouldn’t recommended travelling around Arab countries with an Israeli passport any more than I’d recommend travelling around Europe with a Russian one at the moment.
A couple of stamps ‘cos you’ve been there for work, I probably wouldn’t worry about.
A Jewish work colleague has just come back from Autumn holiday in Egypt, I've not had full opportunity to speak to her yet but I think all was fine for her. I also think she has historic stamps in her passport from previous Israel trips.
Has to be said though she almost didn't go due to security concerns - the week before an Egyptian police officer had killed two Israeli tourists.
