Future daughter in law going abroad with my lad and the kids to Turkey next week.
She has an MRI on her head booked for this Saturday too look into some odd symptoms she currently has and she's been fast tracked for the MRI to rule out anything big C related.
Is she going to be able to be insured at all? At least for the ( very few) diagnosed health issues she has, even if they won't cover the undiagnosed one?
Help really appreciated on this one guys.
Thanks all always.
I'm pretty sure there are specialist insurers who can deal with medical issues & they take a realistic approach to risk so are usually cheaper than the mainstream insurers.
Thanks mate. I've seen some ads on TV for the more specialist ones. Staysure comes to mind.
My lads tried spotting to one online but there is a yes/no answer to undiagnosed issues and then it says they can't insure. Another says to call them tomorrow so it's slightly more hopeful.
Had to check this earlier this year for myself. Depends on the provider, but she should be covered if the holiday was booked before the medical issue was known about.
From experience, no, no insurer will cover something as yet unexplained and unquantifiable as a result.
You can get cover for anything diagnosed - at a cost.

Isn't it that the travel insurance was booked before the medical issue was known....?
As MOAA says, they're not going to cover an issue with an unknown risk profile
Poop, how quickly will the diagnosis come through from the MRI? Might be best the ask for rapid turn around on that and then they can have a concrete discussion w insurance.
They might want to talk to a broker who does more complex travel cover w specialist underwriters. I have cover through Accident and Health Underwriting AHU, through a broker.
First point is to always buy travel insurance when you book the holiday, not just before you go.
Or have an annual policy.
However, I'm guessing in this case that's a moot point.
As the others have said, she'll need to speak to someone who specialises in this. But as it's a "live" investigation I wouldn't be too optimistic about getting cover.
Fingers crossed for her!
Based on my parents experience I’d say insurance might not be possible. My mum told me that she couldn’t get insured as she was under out patent care with no diagnosis. Knowing my parents she wasn’t saying the price had gone up.
As others have said, you should always buy the insurance when you book the holiday (or annual cover) because the declaration of things like medical is from when you buy the insurance. You would need to call the insurance to disclose the change in circumstance, but the insurance still stands because you weren't aware of the condition at the time of purchase. But if that ship has sailed, they'll need to talk with a broker or use the comparison websites and then make lots of phone calls. I think it's very unlikely any insurer will cover the undiagnosed issue but they should be able to find something that covers other accident/incident, cancellation etc.
Obviously best wishes to her.
The insurance aspect has already been covered well.
Obviously don't know they symptoms, but she should absolutely make her doctor/consultant aware that she is flying soon.
A friend had some odd/unexplained symptoms the back end of last year and fortunately had a scan prior to flying. She had a condition where there was cyst on her spine that would have burst and killed her had she taken the planned trip abroad a week or so later.
It's a bit late if they don't already have insurance. If they do, then that's usually fine.
I have travel insurance through my bank. I phoned them the day before travel as I'd come off the bike and banged myself up badly - as the condition wasn't there when the policy was renewed, it was fine. Told them I'd had xrays and nothing broken.
Turned out I'd flown three hours on a badly fractured pelvis, was immobile on holiday and flew back a week later. The risk of a bleed or a blood clot was high (mis diagnosed by hospital)
Also, if she is told not to fly then contact the package company / airline to ask to postpone for medical reasons. Some are surprisingly good with emergency issues as long as you say postponement not cancellation. Obviously hope is doesn't come to that.
