Can anyone recommend any companies that cover anyone with some medical conditions and not charge a hefty penalty.
I'm with Nationwide and they do last time I checked a few years ago but will call them just to check again.

I've scared myself watching some of those consumer programmes showing some peeps who have purchased such insurance only to be caught out by the small print....

Cheers.

A few of my fellow pancreatic cancer sufferers have used All Clear Insurance and sing their praises. Give them a try perhaps?

Got some business travel cover through a broker with Accident and Health Underwriting. Good terms and premium

We always use a broker - in the past we've also used our banks cover.

and not charge a hefty penalty.

Nope - they will all charge an arm and leg - wife insure is well over a grand for a year, so we do it per trip and rarely go abroad now.

Nationwide (through Flex Account) was good for us- we informed them of 3 conditions for my wife in a phone call (think you can do it online also), increase in premium was a bit under 150 annually.

Find a charity that supports your medical condition, they tend to have recommendations of sympathetic insurers. Still not guaranteed though. We can get travel insurance with some caveats, but not life insurance for my wife.

If you have a nut allergy, all insurers brick it in our experience.

If you have a local Macmillan centre, They're usually really helpful with this sort of thing.

Just to clarify my post, the nut allergy is an additional medical concern, rather than the main illness. Think they don't like the unpredictability and severity of the nut allergy.

The main illness just has some exemptions on policies.

I have a policy with LV. I took this out because of the eye watering repatriation costs. I declared my triple heart bypass and current medication and the cost was £240 for the year covering me in Europe.

Staysure used to be my choice for ease of use only, low initial premium but then a loading for the condition. One warning is get it right first time as they charge £25 for any alterations after the policy is up and running. Now covered by the work corporate policy which saves a fortune for 4 or 5 trips a year at £50 plus each.

Sorry it's a bit late but thanks for the above advice.
The planned trip has been postponed for a couple of months so will have a look at the suggestions when I get a chance.

Just done this on nationwide (flexaccount). £48 for wife's conditions and £45 for adding mountain biking (which must be with a guide!!!!). Whether it's a good policy is something I am keen not to find out

Having said earlier were rarely go anywhere, I've just booked my wife in for a last minute single trip to Spain to see her mum for 5days on her birthday. Initially the insurance quote from a previous company we'd used was £150+ for the single trip! Daughter was £25 for the year..... (6 separate conditions to list).

Eventually I went through the Quidco comparison and got it down to £60 for the trip with £5 cash back. Cover was pretty poor for everything other than medical which was Upton 10million. Still double the daughters annual cost.

We needed cover for the combination of mountain biking, flat water kayaking and via ferrata (Nationwide have got too restrictive on their extreme sports list), with pre existing medical conditions (which for me includes a blood clotting risk and heart arythmia) and Insure and Go came out the best option for trying to cover all that. I spent days looking around and speaking to different providers! Didn’t have to use it thankfully but they have 4.8* on Trust Pilot from 55000+ reviews.

We got ours through Legal & General. Covered the conditions, issues we have (Mrs F and I) and wasn't eye-wateringly expensive. That was last year though. I found the policy via a comparison site having specifically searched for travel cover with existing medical conditions.
