Does anyone know if it's possible to get travel insurance that covers a trip cancellation due to work commitments? Seems to be available in the USA but even my best Google-fu is struggling to find a UK equivalent.
There's a possibility in February that my position in the company will change, and as a consequence any leave that's booked will be wiped. If I can get the weekend off, there's still the risk that I can have work assigned on that date at short notice.
All help appreciated. 🙂
surely that is works problem .
If i get assigned work at short notice over my leave period work picks up the tab for any receipted costs incurred.
As per TR.
If I book leave and associated costs, then get asked to change it gets put in as expenses.
Would love to do as TR suggests, but not possible.
There's surely some law covering unfair work policy that costs you money for cancelling a pre-arranged (with plenty of notice) holiday.
Even if they say not possible, if it's going to mean I'm out of pocket, work would be paying up, whether they like it or not.
Edit: though change in position and wiping the holiday calendar is tricky one. If there's a contractual change I'd be insisting that the holiday is carried over as part of the contract. If the change in position your decision? That might complicate the legal side of it. If they're enforcing the change, then they have to accommodate.
So are work suggesting that you must be available 365 days a yr just in case they need you?

It's complicated. It's my decision to change roles, but it's an aspirational bid and could take place at any point in the next 13 months. Based on numbers and rumours it's likely to be February, but the person in charge of the process refuses point blank to provide firm dates... (head / wall moment).
If you've got leave, you can't be assigned work. If you haven't got leave, then uncovered work can be assigned between 7-30 days in advance and can cover any period.

Even if it is your decision, surely if you point out that you have leave booked, there should be some wriggle room with your line management?

Ahahahahahahahahha
Doesn't work like that here. It's a big company and managers have no authority over leave etc. There's a "process" and it only covers stuff like dying.
OP, no travel insurance will pick up contractual liabilities you've agreed to.

If they want you in that role, then there should be accommodation made. Maybe they're not that bothered who fills it.

Well, they let me in so I suspect not...
