does anyone on here have any experience or know a good reliable insurer for my mate who is going to work in Afghanistan. He is not in the forces and is going to work for a medical charity who have some projects running there. cheers for any advice in advance
Last time I looked into it L&V did life insurance that would cover Afghan. I doubt travel insurance will cover the risks of working in the country. The charity should be able to provide more details.
He needs to ask the charity, not only about the insurance but also what their security plan is. If the don't have either then he should avoid - even Kabul can be risky (we run projects in Afghanistan btw).
Edit: who's he going to work for?
As leffeboy's just said. Humanitarian is good, but the place is hairy unless people are looking after you.
Towergate & Wilson should cover him.
Humanitarian and health work was good until the US chose to conduct secret bin laden hunting under the guise of a charity doing vaccination, now they are prime targets.
Lioyds be a good start
But then again the charity should organise that
ISTR that Aon did all my old employer's insurance for high-risk work in Afghanistan.
The employer should be covering him for this sort of thing as it's not cheap.
