As above. Looks like our travel insurance costs are through the roof.

The only company who will offer cover so far are Allclear - and the more affordable policy doesn't include cancellation, only medical bills, no COVID cover On top of that the policy wording is a weasel-fest - basically if you're not strolling through a city centre in good weather, you're not covered. Allclear offer a few policies, and the more expensive ones do offer more, but exclude a combination of cycling as a main reason (we're cycle touring on one planned trip...) and/or walking unless on graded marked trails...

Policy costs between £640 and £1400...

Any one able to suggest insurance company for road & gravel cycling, and some hillwalking of reasonable mountains, with serious preexisting conditions?

GoFundMe looks tempting. *Big wink emoji*

Try Trailfinders? They've covered us including some preexisting conditions, includes mtb and trekking.

Good luck getting all sorted to enjoy your travels / holiday.

We are with Staysure, both with pre existing conditions - covers cycling and hiking (under 2500m)

Cheers.

Some of the more regular insurers just say 'no' when they discover that she's got no immune system and borked lungs...

Why a pre-existing figurine? Surely buying some ceramic tat in the shape of a local stereotype is all part of the fun, why take your own?

Travelinsurance4medical are who we go with - my son is in long term on/off treatment for a brain tumour & associated issues, and my wife has various medications... They're pretty good cover, and always a decent amount of cashback through topcashback too...

The Gov Money Helper website has a list of firms that offer insurance for pre-existing. You might also look at support for e.g. cancer patients. Good luck.

Allianz?

I had to declare some minor conditions for canada with no premium increse.

I have no idea if the cover Europe however their hillwalking andbiking cover was goid. Basically if you were on recognised cross coutry routes you were civered

Probably not what you are after but outdoor active peiple could do a lot worse than take out annual membership of the Austrian Alpine Club. It gives automatic rescue cover fir any outdoor activity for 12 months (skiing climbing mountain biking etc) so you only need sort a bog standard holiday insurance for a trip for everything else.

I've used Staysure in the past, the existing conditions can bump the cost a bit but insuring for the specific break can be a lot cheaper than an annual policy. My cycling trips for work used to work out around £50 a go for 4 days with low risk prostate cancer and BPH.

Apologies, I sent that link to the Alpine Club from my phone. I wanted to send a link to the British chapter of the club. Check out

https://www.alpenverein.at/britannia/

Used in conjuction with my old EHIC and now GHIC it is all the insurance I ever bother with in Europe.

The quotes we have had suggest less than £50 in it for specific holiday and nominated countries vs annual and all of europe...

The other approach is an old-fashioned broker, but you'll obviously pay for the privilege

I have used a broker for problematic pre-existing in the past (policy bought through the company for directors and dependents) - they were able to find sensible annual premiums with a specialist - AHU - Accident and Health Underwriting. Some brokers are cautious about travel cover if they have no previous relationship with you.

Subsequently have looked at dogtag for skiing who where quite sensible, but have maintained policy w AHU. Yellow Jersey are often mentioned on here when looking for different policies for outdoor sport.

Is it an option to look for individual policies so cheaper for three of you, and one more expensive policy for Mrs OAB?

Have prices maybe just shot up in general?

I normally pay around £40-£50 for a single week snow sport insurance. I'm skipping the snow this year for a week on the bike in the Alps this summer and the quotes I'm getting (with my pre existing maladies), are around £150.

Like susepic suggests, I always book my insurance separate from Kerry's as she get's hers for buttons, but adding me on hikes the price right up for both of us.

I have tried a few folks for a quote - most have refused to cover, the specialists in more difficult pre-existing conditions struggle with much beyond a gentle walk or bike ride. But, I think between Austrian Alpine Club and a specialist cover we can get cover, just at a cost.

Maybe time to suck it up for a last trip or two.

Thanks all.
