I Have to travel to Chesham Friday night leaving Penrith about 4.45. Those who travel similar routes or are on the main motorways regularly particularly in the south which is better option
M6
or A66 then A1 / M1
Trying to avoid congestion as far as possible.
thanks
I would personally do A66 then A1/M1
Because you'll hit the M6 past Manchester/Knutsford etc at peak shitefest time, and getting past Brum will be hardly any better.
I think the long term roadworks on the A1 south of Scotch Corner are pretty much complete now? Or did I just imagine that?
I'd google map it on the day and see what it says but I'd generally try and avoid the M6 carnage at that time. Although M1 past Sheffield / Nottingham / Derby etc can be equally bad.
I would normally do M18 to cross over rather than just take the M1, which misses 'some' of the South Yorkshire troublespots.
Impossible to avoid congestion on a Friday evening .I’d be tempted to depart at 6 if possible. Google delays on the day ,m6 m1 for me.
Martin hutch A1 m18 just after Doncaster to m1 not thought of that
I can only hope you are taking some Cranstons Cumberlands with you to show them Southerners what a proper snorker tastes like !
I live just down the road from Chesham and regularly make the reverse trip to north of the border through Carlisle. For me, it would be A66, A1 down to St Neots then A421 to join the M1 near Milton Keynes (jct 13).
Minimising time spent on the M1 is always good!
I would go nowhere near the M6 on a Friday.
