I have found 5 sheets of profile roof sheeting 18' long, they are free and just what I need to put a cheap roof on the canoe rack and one of the woodsheds. Only problem is they are 20 miles away and I have a skoda yeti.
I drive about with a 17' kayak without issue but I fear the sheets would catch the wind, anybody got any ideas for getting them safely on the roof bars? Will they roll lengthwise maybe?
I’d try to “stiffen” them with several lengths of roof batten to help them resist the wind whilst on the roof bars.
good luck 👍
Not roll, but maybe arch. But yeah, a couple of long battens on top and a could below as temudgin would also work.
Actually would a ladder do the job, coupled with a light right foot, and a cavalier attitude and some luck 🙂
Put a ladder or ideally two ladders on your roof rack and strap to them
Don't slide the sheets along each other, try and put them together on the roof without sliding as it's really easy to scratch the coating on the sheets
Thanks all, scratching them isnt a worry, they are pretty old anyway but will be fine for their purpose. I'll put the ladder on and try to arch them over that to the bars, ever a slight curve should help and with the ladder I'll probably be good
Put a hi viz vest or similar on the back end somehow, just in case. I saw an old chap walk into something sticking out the back of a car once, it was bloody!
One of the girls at work walked into my sea kayak on the roof of my car once, said she didn't see it. 17 feet long and bright ****ing red!

I'm not sure what hi Viz would have added other than maybe an entanglement risk to go with the bumped head.

Woah, time shift double post. That came from the pit of too much beer.
One ladder up the middle of the car. Strap down over the top of that. Take some old inner tubes to protect your straps as the edges can be sharp. They’re heavier and less flexible than you’d imagine - you’ll struggle to put an arch into 5 stacked on each other as the radius will be different. 6m is much longer than a yeti, so flags or high viz. I’d probably trap down from the back down to rear towing eye as well. Front you’ll not be able to as IIRC it’s on the driver’s side. Small step stool to get them loaded - a yeti is a tall thing and the skoda roof bars are really high.
steel or fibre? if the former they will cut through anything so make sure what ever you do the edges are protected.
