I've got new Android head unit on the way, and it's got full wireless Carplay and Auto.

That means I don't need a phone sat on the dash holder anymore.

I can find lots of USB 'button blanks', but I would like to put one in the glove box if I can so it is all stored away and neat.

Anyone done this?

On the t5, there is an access port top right at the back of the glove box. I moved the 12v supply to there from the drinks holder

It’s fairly easy to remove the glove box to get to from memory, and the panel above the stereo just pops out.

If I recall you can get a new dash top tray without the fag lighter bit and then re route the fag lighter feed into the glove box, drill a 20mm hole or whatever and install a new fag lighter socket in there. I either did that or thinking bout it the other way round on my California by taking another feed from the fag lighter on the dash and buying a new dash top tray with a fag lighter socket in it to plug my phone into as the old fag lighter was in the pull out cup holder. it should work either way. Just buy a decent quality socket and fuse it.

I did this on my old 5.1 Velle. The access port I think is for the VW oem MDI device which sort of did USB in a bad way. I ran an aux and a USB in there, but in reality just a USB would have done fine. Beware that if you don't use the MDI slot ( at the back of the glovebox) and go in via the side where I think there are perforations it can be a bit tricky getting the box back into the dash. Oh and watch out for VW's beautifully stamped steel bits if you're jiggling things with your hands up from the footwell. Blood was definitely lost!

DO NOT turn the vehicle on with the airbag warning light or airbag disable switch disconnected! It won't go BANG! but it will throw an error that has to be reset with a code reader. The passenger airbag activation wires are taped to a bit of steel just below the box. They're bright yellow and bloomin obvious. Easy to snag on a watch.

OOh it does wireless AA/Carplay. Have you thought about an inductive charger bonded either under the top tray or under the glove box? It'd need testing but I think one of the magsafe chargers might just reach through the plastic.
