Have my eye on a really nice Transit Custom Crew van that I want to convert to a basic camper with folding/removeable seats in the rear.
It has a fixed 3 seat bench seat in the rear and a bulkhead.
Can the Transit Custom crew fixed 3 seat rear bench be removed and replaced with the folding/removeable type seats using the same mountings/fittings. Also how difficult is it to remove the bulkhead?
Sorry I can't answer your Q, but don't crew cabs fetch a premium anyway? Wouldn't you be better starting with a normal van?
Probably but the van I am looking at has several things I want like satnav, single passenger seat, tailgate, side windows etc so that’s a lot saved to start with. Plus I think that fitting rear seats from scratch may be more expensive than bolting in new seats on current fixtures.
I looked into this and came to the conclusion the answer is no.
You need to buy the Tourneo Custom unfortunately.
The answer is yes although it's probably not the easiest job in the world. I looked into this before & there are a couple of threads on the Transit forum where someone has done it. There is a manual you can dl from Ford that shows all the mounting positions, etc. IIRC some non-crew cab vans have the mounting points for the folding seats (which are in different places) already, think it might be related to trim level i.e. Limited and above but you'd have to check obviously. If your van does not already have the extra mounting points then it becomes a lot more difficult.
The folding seats are available from eBay or sites (Van Demon maybe?) quite often as companies take them out of new Tourneos to do wheelchair conversions.
