You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Long story kept short, but following a recommendation from here, my girlfriend set up a TransferWise account to move 1000GBP from her Nationwide BS account to her Canadian bank account.
The money was debited from Nationwide on May 13 and, she thought, would turn up in the Canadian bank account within a couple of days max.
However, the app shows status as "Your money is on its way to us" with an ETA of May 24...
Does it really take 11 calendar days for a UK building society to transfer money? (Nationwide show the £1000 debit on May 13th)
TransferWise customer support are very vague and are suggesting she has used the wrong payment method and that:
"For future transfers you do not have to add money to your transferwise account to send it to someone else."
Anyone (Stoner:from previous posts, you've used them before!) have any ideas what to do next? It looks like she's already lost a few £££ as the exchange rate is now less favourable 🙁
I've used it before to send money to the UK and it usually only takes a day, it's amazingly fast. Contact Transferwise again. With support folks often you have to try a few times until you get someone who really understands. Just persevere. Phone if possible rather than chat or email. Most likely there is a problem in the reference you have to write on the transaction so they can't line it up in their accounts when it arrives. It should be instant for them as she would have sent it to a UK transferwise account
TransferWise - like PayPal - have their own internal accounts you can store money in. Is it possible she transferred from Nationwide to her TransferWise account, without then moving it from there to her Canadian account?
As above - transfers are usually not more than a day.
TransferWise is the quickest forex I've used.
Barclays > TransferWise's account is pretty much recorded immediately. I use the same sort/account/ref everytime
TransferWise to my RBC (canadian) in a couple of days.
Shouldn't be any loss... You get what you pay for at the time of booking the transfer. I have no idea about 'your TransferWise account' though as I only use them for forex, not as a 'wallet'.
It's also possible that the hold is at the Canadian end while the bank carries out security checks and makes some money on the suspense account.
as others have said I find the Uk end of Transferwise amazingly fast. We're talking in seconds to transfer from Barclays to Transferwise.
The fact that TW say the money is on the way to them suggests that there is a problem with the transfer from Nationwide to her personal Ref number at TW. Has she tested the transfer before? Checking she is using the correct sort code and a/c for TW and correct personal reference number for her a/c at TW?
For reference there are two transferwise "products". Transfers and Borderless accounts.
Transfers are held against your personal name/account identifier at transferwise but then always head on towards their destination. If they cant complete the transfer the money is retruned to the originating account from which the moeny first came.
Borderless accounts allow you to pay in to an account in your name (and in most main currencies with a unique account number and a sort code or IBAN just like a real bank account) You can leave deposits in these currency accounts for as long as you like. Transfer between them changing currency or pay out in a particular currency to an external destination (i.e. your own account with a bank somewhere) I have £ and a € borderless accounts and they work brilliantly.
Thanks folks. I think Stoner has it...I didn't realize there are two different products available (incidentally, this has all been done thru the Android app, so it may be more obvious on the website)
Doing some more investigation, it seems she's using a Borderless account rather a one-off transfer (which, I guess, what she needs longer term as she will also be transferring money from CAD to GBP later as well).
TW have provided more instructions and are now saying transfer should be complete withing next 2hrs... Fingers crossed...
