You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hard to believe it's been 30 years.
Think it’s 50 years, even scarier.
Can't be. If it was 50 years, all the people who bought the album when they were young would be old now. Thirty years feels about right to me.
I've never heard a better version than the 1984 one.
By Frankie goes to Hollywood.
The album was indeed released in 1975. 50 years ago. Christ on a stick, that makes me feel old. Same as Wish You Were Here 🤨
I read his autobiography of the same name recently. Its quite good and not ghost written (so it does ramble a bit but not too much and really captures his style). His early days and the length of time it took to break through were the most interesting parts - A real snapshot of a long gone Americana. Recommend.
Gotta agree with Big John, the Frankie version is one of those covers that beats the original. Springsteen always sounds like he's crimping a big one out when he's going for it.
Also agree on the Frankie version being way better than the original.
See also Tortoise and Bonnie Prince Billy's version of Thunder Road.

...and the bizarre 'conversation' before the track comes on makes it.
Sorry I've left me card at home
Well you're late as well, that's three times on the run, if you're late again, the supervisor says we're gonna put you on daily sign on......
Ha
Frankie version sounds like a cruise ship singer.
Bruce sounds like he believes what he's singing about.
Still, we can like different things. There's no right or wrong with music.
I was confused earlier today reading 30 years then I thought surely Clarence hasn't been gone that long either .
One of Bruce's songs that paints a vivid picture of Americana how I imagine it is Racing In The Street . But there are too many The River , I find that I'm at an age now where I'm the one he's singing about on Glory Days 😔
The Stupids did my favourite version: Born to Built to Grind
Same as thols2, Thunder Road is the one I listen to most. I'd play it more often if my voice didn't fail about half way through when I run out of power and range.
Both BTR and TR are just brilliant songs. I love them both so much. When I want to experience a bit of BS & TESB song building magic, I listen to Racing In The Streets. There’s a recording on YouTube of it “live at the Paramount Theatre” that any enthusiast should look up. It’s wonderful.

Definitely, it's a brilliant cover. The spoken intro alone is worth a platinum disc.
Oh and for another "here you go Bruce, here's how to do it" the Cowboy Junkies version of State Trooper is magnificent.
Bruce is a top bloke though.
Bruce is a top bloke though.
I loved the radio broadcasts he did during COVID. In that way he's a bit like Guy Garvey for me - top bloke, really like the radio show, just don't get his own output.
I've always put Springsteen and Dylan in the same place - great songwriters but I'd rather hear somebody else perform their creations. I'm more partial to Dylan as a performer than I used to be, but Springsteen...
I like some of Bruces music but not a fan of Born To Run, somebody should've told him less is more.

They didn’t need to, he’s perfectly capable of doing that himself. See Nebraska.
I still have my vinyl copies of his first three albums, which are my favourites of his.
Oh, and FGTH version is as good as the original, just different.
You have to see him live
A great song by a great artist - music never gets old it's just us 🙄
@glyno: Amy's version is good but the best thing about your link is simply watching an artist do something like that live. She sounds amazing and is doing it all live - no safety net and no mistakes! That just blows me away and makes me so happy 😀

the whole point of that album is that more is more. It’s rock opera. Jungleland has a 2 1/2 minute sax solo and gets away with it. The whole thing is perfection.
The live film from Hammersmith is well worth a watch
