Hi all,

I see that there are train strikes on Saturday 2nd Sept. I'd like to get the train from Wadhurst into London, and then London to Winchester, on the evening of Friday 1st Sept, with a bike. Trains don't let me book a bike.

Flexible on time, but leaving after 5pm and ideally arriving before 10pm.

Odds on this going vaguely smoothly? Due to the strike, are trains on the Friday eve likely to be chaos, or less so due to the strike being on a weekend?

Thanks!

Trains usually stop running stupid early on the day before a strike

I can't answer specifics but I just did Waterloo to Guilford on the night before a Friday strike. It was extremely busy, standing only and to be honest I couldn't see how anything other than a Brompton style bike was going on.

Partly it's always like that, partly there seems to be trains cancelled in anticipation of strikes and reduced service due to overtime bans etc

If it was me I'd try and give it the best chance of working by going as late as possible but there is a big risk the trains Just stop and you'll be stranded

Thanks all - reckon I'd have more luck starting from Brighton, to Southampton, to Winchester?

If you can avoid the London evening exodus then it's got to be better I would have thought

Good luck, having seen it recently I don't envy you!
