I am currently staying near Pickering and went to Dalby to ride but it is closed this weekend for a rally. Are there any local trails in the Thornton area that I can get on instead?

Take your pick from here.

Or you could go to Guisborough, loads of good riding there.

We did OMM Bike there a couple of weekends ago, there's a very pleasant ride up to Rosedale Head, Greenhow and Danby High Moors and back via Cropton Forest.

Not cropton forest. A horrible horrible mud slog that nearly put me off biking FOREVER.

Sutton Bank isn't too far, if you want a sort of trail centre sort of thing.
