I'm going to be driving from Nottingham to Preston later in the week and as I'm not under huge time pressures I am tempted to take the scenic route, breaking the journey with a run.
Any recommendations for a 1-1.5 hour run that wouldn't require a massive detour? Would prefer big skies to woods but a mixture would be fine.
Thanks!

What sort of terrain do you want? Hills or flat?

Goyt Valley. Errwood car park northwards on the paths and up on to the ridge at the road, southwards all along the ridge line to Shining Tor, and back down to the car park. An hour and a bit when I used to have a left knee and run around there

Not quite the White Peak, but looking at your route to Preston, and your request for "big skies" . . . why not consider the gritstone ridges on the Cheshire - Staffordshire border?

A there-and-back on a section of the Gritstone Trail might suit you, and it's well signposted (AFAIK).

Take the M1 to J-35A , take the Woodhead rd to Manchester, park at Crowden and then run the Pennine way up to Laddow rocks and back.
