Possibly, this should be in the bike forum, but its about running stuff, for use on the bike.

I wear a pair of Shmano MT90 boots for 95% of the biking I do. Suits the hike-a-bike epics I like to do when I get a chance, and also doesn't look too out-of-place worn off the bike in pub/town/office etc.
Love the gore-tex lining BUT they do suffer from a gaping wide opening to let mud/rain/snow in. So I started thinking about gaiters.
Tried a pair of "normal" gaiters last year in the snow which sort of worked underneath waterproof trousers, but they were bulky and would look daft with shorts.
I was wondering about a trail-running gaiter.

Either Raidlight

Or Inov-8:

But both say they're only suitable for running shoes, not trail walking shoes or boots.
Question is, would they fit with boots? And if not, does anyone make anything simliar that would?

Unless they're tucked in under leggings water will just run down your leg into the gaitor....

but they both look like they have a tight ankle cuff, something the MT90s don't have (hence the problem)

Hasn't someone done a ghetto version of these using cut down marigolds?

Marigolds could work. As could offcuts from an old wetsuit as has been suggested elsewhere. But I don't have an old wetsuit and freecycle wasn't forth-coming.

I have the sock version of the Inov-8 ones - they'd likely work with shoes, but probably not with boots. I doubt they'd do what you want though - they're debris gaiters designed for keeping bits of rubbish out of your shoes - non-waterproof fabric, so they won't do anything to keep rain or snow out.

Not terribly difficult to make something yourself out of a bit of waterproof fabric.

But making something that isn't too flappy-about would be tricky.

I use the Inov8 ones with my shimano boots.
The water gets in after a while in heavy rain though.

cheers Phil
How comfortable are they, and how stretched are they over the boots?

I don't notice them when they're on & they don't seem too stretched.

off poste, T K Maxx, Reading, have Trekmates ankle gaiters in their bargain bin

When I was a motorbike trailrider we used a 1" slice of a motor bike inner tube to tighten trouser bottoms etc round boot. (But to be fair an decent MX boot is waterproof halfway up your leg, whereas an mtb shoe is waterproof to the ankle if you've masticed the cleat.

Also you can get black waterproof socks of ebay for about 9 quid. I use these as they actually seem to work.

Waterproof socks seem a bot of overkill with a gore-tex boot.

Berghaus Glacier looks promising. A few good reviews about use on a bike too.
