The dog has taken to jogging alongside me on some of the old railway lines in the area when Im out for an easy spin. However a few weeks ago she had got a little nick on her pad whilst in the local park. It didn't cut right through but kept her limping for a week around the house as it healed up.

A runner mate has suggested dog trainers for her to protect against this in the future, his mutt has some as he prefers jogging around the streets and it stops the claws from wearing down apparently.

The OH is keen, the dog will be less so. With all the crap that lies around this town nowadays it sounds like a good idea but I have a feeling the pooch will eat them off within a nanosecond.

Mine tends to get thorns stuck in his pads as opposed to cuts and I keep thinking of trying shoes but imagine he will chew them off within seconds! Ruffwear do a good range.

We use ruff wear booties on our lab he doesn’t like them, but they only get used on certain runs and rides.

Protect their paws. Ours put a little slice in one of hers and it took 7 days of full bandaging and 2 or 3 trips to the vet to recover.
Vet thought it was either glass or slate.

Our pup had various shoes, ruffwear, neoprene slippers and similar. She didn't like them unless she had injured a pad - glass maybe or just over use so very tender pads. In which case she would tolerate them until it had healed up.

Best ones were the cheap neoprene slippers that can be modified with strips of cordura webbing on the sole - indestructable, grippy but still flexible. The ruffwears she wouldn't tolerate so (stealth ad) PM me if you are interested in a set of four virtually unused shoes!

Personally I wouldnt put them on unless to protect an injury. Running a dog in shoes is quite likely gonna cause an injury in my experience as it's very easy to overtighten and crush or strain the ankle and paw. Wearing claws down also not a problem, ours would chew them off if they ever got too long anyway.

Sadly she doesn't need shoes any more....
