As colleagues we plan to run a virtual marathon split into 14 x 3km distances.
We plan to do it consecutively, handing over a virtual baton. We can do that in a WhatsApp group, but would like to ‘see’ each other as we run. Is there an easy and free way to do this? We’d happily run carrying a phone.
I am sure there are loads of Apps, but we use Life 360 for tracking our little girls when they go out alone - it works pretty well and I think it would be suitable for your need.
You can share your position within what'sapp, you just need to have your location sharing setting set right, even if during the event only

As above - I'd just share your location in whatsapp & run with your phone.
Best way to do it I reckon would be create a group for your all.
You could do it a couple of ways:
First runner shares location and starts. When they get near the end of their stint, the next allocated runner starts his/her location and so on....this would keep it easy to keep track of, but introduce a higher degree of potential error.
Or,
You could just all turn your location sharing on at the same time, but it might be a bit more difficult to see who is currently running. Less chance of it going wrong though and if you have a run order list it would be OK.
To share location in whatsapp, you just go to the 'attach' paperclip icon when composing a message & choose 'location'. You can choose various options based around how long it stays on for.
