me mams getting a little forgetful at present.  we lost our dad last week and shes coping quite well but out and about round the shops and driving, shes getting a bit absent minded.  we've spoken about tracking apps on her phone and she agrees its a good idea.

i seem to think theres something on google maps where you can share location, and my daughter also says shes got an app called life 360 for my granddaughter that does that and more, tells her exactly where she is, how much charge on her phone etc.

anyone got any experience of either of these, or are there any downsides to them, intrusive ads, slows your phone right down, that sort of thing?

anything any better?

thanks

If it's Android then use Google Location Services and switch Sharing on 8n Google Maps. You can choose who to share it with. We use this at work to track each other when we are driving. It obviously depends on having a data signal .

We use viewranger and the buddy beacon feature for tracking. That's for sport stuff and it works well for that. Uses GPS and uses a bit more battery. No ads. Not quite sure how well it'd work in your case but I think it's still free (you just pay for premium mapping, which you won't need)

There is also the Google Trusted Contacts app that shares location.

Life 360 works very well and is easy to use. You can set up groups and everyone can see the location of everyone else.

ViewRanger BuddyBeacon is also very good and easy to use. You set up a beacon (email address and 4 digit Pin), share your location (important as otherwise it doesn't create an account and you get an error) and then you can add that Beacon to your Viewranger and track from either your phone or online at: http://www.viewranger.com/buddybeacon/v2/.

We use BuddyBeacon to track our team and it works very well.

thinking about it im sure that me and the missus set something similar up when she went through a spell of losing her phone.  however ive just looked on maps and i can only see my location not hers.  how exactly should that be set up?

thats good to know.  she was interested in knowing your opinion when i said i was going to ask.  i may go double safe and have that app plus the google location thing too if i can suss how to work it.

thanks

Re the Trusted contacts I set it up for when I'm out riding and it shares my location with my wife. I think if you set it up on the other persons phone and let it share location with you or whoever else you want there are various options. It will share constantly or if you send the other phone a request.

Google Maps

Menu

Location Sharing

Add a contact

This has to be done on the phone/account you want to track.
