You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Looking for a simple way to track a number of people using phones. 4 or 5 people, split into two groups. Really only need to track one from each group but the groups will mix so maybe easier just to track everyone. We've used viewranger in the past which worked well but it's now a pay for feature on the new app. It'll be a mix of apples and androids if that complicates things. The ideal would have some idea of track and direction but I'll settle for a location pin. Everyone is in on it so nothing sneaky required, but it'd be good if it doesn't need too much faffing with other people's phones
If some of them have garmins you could use live track or Strava has beacon.
never used either though so not sure how good they are.
I needed to be in touch with my son, who had a different phone setup to me - when I last looked, something like Glympse did the trick - worth checking if it's what you're after.
Can more than one person share their location in a WhatsApp group? You can set for you location to be shared for a fixed duration.
Google location through whats app works very well but the refresh rate isn't quite up to tracking 'sport'.
If thats more like what you want, then Garmin Live Track works great. I've used it during XC races so my partner knows I'm near the pits and ready for a bottle change!
WhatsApp works well IME. Unless of course you are off network...as with all these things.
Life360 works across android and apple and the basic version is free and does what you are looking for
2nd Life360, it'd designed for family groups but it'll do what you want, Apple and Android, it'll give a pin for each device in the group. Can sometimes be a bit flaky with the update rate but that may be due to the older phones I've experienced it running on.
IME Whatsapp will drain batteries pretty quick
Google Maps has a sharing option like Apple's "find my " feature but works cross platform and a lot less data/battery intensive.
Life360 works, but worth knowing it wants to override some battery saving settings on android, and also burns through battery as it's always taking GPS positions and uploading to update everyone. Reckon it reduces battery by about quarter to a third
