Is there any software that will automatically trace photos/images that can then be inserted into Autocad.
At the moment I'm inserting an image into Autocad then manually tracing around an image. It's very time consuming.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
There might be filters for photoshop/illustrator and the like that will produce line drawings from a photo - they might be able to export that as a vector format that AutoCAD could read... but in my experience (daily use though I'd no longer call myself a power user or anything close), that's not something that AutoCAD co do itself, I'll have quick google for some appropriate plugins on my coffee break.
Bus fundamentally you're wanting to go from a raster image (pixels) to vector (lines), which will take manual, human effort.

the functionality you're looking for is now actually part of the package. Assuming you're on a subscription and not a hooky copy, you might be able to get it, and it might do what you want.

there are also a number of online conversion sites. these are the first couple of results from le google.

I used one call raster2vector, still needed redrawing. I just trace anything these days using plines and splines.
Thanks chaps.
I have a fully paid license Autocad. I didn't know there was a plug in for this sort of thing. I'll give it a go if I can get a trial version.
I can manually draw small jobs with plines and splines but I'm looking for something that do most of the tracing. I realise that I will still have to do some manual tracing but was hoping to reduce manual input.
Once I've done the tracing it will get laser cut out of steel so would like to speed the process up a bit.
