Hi, my son and partner are looking to tour Europe for 5 months this summer. Has lots of toys (bikes, bouldering mat, surf boards etc) so looking at converted Sprinter or whatever for about 8k., preferably lhd.
Any tips on insurance, vehicle and breakdown
Thanks, Geoff
I'd love to know where you can get a converted Sprinter for £8k.
I'm sure some nice person on St will have one.

Loads out there for that and less. It just won't be a late model factory conversion.

I have the perfect van (except it's RHD). Converted Crafter and last summer we spent 5 months in it... except we also had 2 small children! We had 3 bikes and 3 pads too. It's probably more in the £15k range though.
Anyway, for insurance we used ERS although we bought through a broker and I can't remember who that was. We did have to make a claim for a new awning and window and ERS were excellent.

Its not that hard.
The trouble will be getting a good one that isn't half rotten.
I went with an Iveco daily as it seemed in better nick to the others I saw and got plenty change from 8k.
man I just lost an hour to searching campers on ebay! Some reasonable looking t4s for not too much
Thanks, taxi25.
Currently looking for a van to convert, and people are asking £20k+ (VAT doesn't help) for 5yr olds with 130,000 miles, hence my surprise.
Sorry to divert the thread.

Iveco Daily - I paid around £10k (or £12k?) for an unconverted one that was two years old with 12,000 on the clock, well under half the list price. You won't find much a better value van. This one was mint condition and it was an end of line between models so they'd emptied a load of extras into it as well, so it was a rare find.
I sold my last one again for about £10k, it was 10 years old with about 130k, fully converted. They are heavy so ensure you weigh anything you go to look at before handing over the money, the LWB particularly needs to a lightweight built unless you get a heavier model over 3.5t.

I know, I'm seeing this as well. £6,0000-8,0000 van with £6,000 conversion becomes £20,000 van.
