I want to create a new wall in a room from glass. Would need to be 2.8m odd high, 1.5m odd wide, with a door in the middle...so would need 4 panels & fittings.

Any clue as to costs? I expect it to be prohibitive...(say >£1K) and yes I will ask suppliers for a quote but they're closed till Wednesday up here!

Yeah, it may be crap, it may also be cool, I need to clear the room out to visualise it.

Laminated would probably be cheaper as youcan get it cut off the rack where as toufghened is cut to size and then baked, and cant be recut, makes a mess if broken.

Glass bricks - or is that too opaque?

always wanted to build with glass bricks. When I last looked at it it seemed a bit of a faff with the metal cross bars etc and then the grout. But I imagine there's simpler systems.

EDIT: like this http://www.glassblocks.co.uk/old/neweasifix.htm

The acoustics would be truly awful. I thought you were a bit of an audio g33k?

Look at office partitioning systems, as it's only 4ish m2 you should do it for under a grand.

As above. Use a specialist system, readily available via office / demoutable partition specialist.

Try this: Express Toughened Glass

They have an online form for getting a rough idea of pricing. Adam Curtis there is very helpful.

Thanks guys.

Tootall it's not for a listening room. In fact it's to put an ensuite in a room at the far end from a window - to get as much light as possible. As I've said I can't decide whether it's weird or awesome.

Just be careful when you have a drink. I built a seamless glass extension
for the old owner of Zoom Airlines years ago with a wine cellar disguised as a garden shed at the bottom of his garden and at one of his parties he came back from his shed with a bottle of wine and walked straight into the door of the extension and knocked himself out. 😆

For an en-suite, I reckon the glass brick idea would work really well.

seahouse - I'll avoid that by never ever cleaning it 😉 BTW you should give Vosh and Lobbydosser his address...

Sean & druid, aye, not sure it's the look I'm after TBH

It'd be even better if it could be wired to an odour sensor so it would go red when Al has been in for a shit.

Can the floor take such a sharp loading where you are planning? That much toughened glass would have some weight focused on a very small area. You have thought about how big the biggest piece would be to get it into the room as well?

Ta - it would go across 4 joists, widest panel would get through door OK.

Supaseal in Glasgow are the cheapest, but are Trade only. You could set up a Sundries account with them if you can pass yourself off as a business .I would have guessed about £40/m/sq for 4mm, more for 6mm.
They will deliver too.

*bump*

It's prob a daft idea I an realising...in my ensuite I can save a 5' space by the window which is great for a desk etc and would be a bit wasted otherwise...and a glass wall would make it ligh.

But a 5' square space by a bathroom seems a bit silly when I stand in the space to visualize it...

just found a price in my lab book for some toughened glass we use for curing flat plates.

300x300x6mm £18 each which would tie in with the 1000x1000x4mm for £40 above taking into consideration bulk area and thinner glass.

Be wary that I suspect it'll be against building regs unless it comes kitemarked - friend of mine had a draught excluder (like a glass shower curtain) condemned as he couldn't prove it was certified safe. Naturally it went right back in after the completion, but something to consider.
