Anyone doing it (well a bit late to ask that now) or going over to watch it?

Did it the last 5 years Houns, ( last year was it was hpyothermic!) but giving it a miss this year. £100 entry fee put me off a bit, that was with previous tough guy discount!!

I've just done it. And it was horrible. 2 inch thick Ice in the water obstacles. A new obstacle (I think) on the run that had you zigzagging across a water filled trench I don;t know how many times.

Kudos to the guy I saw running around with one shoe, and a wooly hat on his other foot.

Hopefully, it will be a bit like childbirth, and I will forget how utterly terrible I felt, and I'll do it again next year. 100 pounds is a lot of money, but I don't feel short changed by it.

Saw a couple of other bikers there - one guy in a Troy Lee DH jersey, and his mate in an Altura. Hi if that was you.

Went over this morning spectating, well done those who took part and completed, camaraderie looked really good.

Saw the one shoed guy going through the Tiger Tails, the barbed wire bit looked truely horrific!

Doubt I'd put myself through the misery unless as part of a team, £100 is steep to go solo...and £50 to park Spaulding 😉

Hats off to the Mankini guy, the Gladiators, the Rubiks Cube(!) and all those all bailed with hypothermia, Nettle Warrior next if anyone's up for a bit more!

:lol:Definately not entering for £100!! Crazy money will stick to the Helly hansen and trailplus challenge that I did today! more fun and a LOT cheaper! Plus I love the MTB as there are so many idiots I realise that I am a technical genius!

Had a few friends complete it today as well, however the Facebook statuses suggests it was quite unpleasant! I was just checking out the website - one of the obstacles involve running through a nettle bush WTF?!

CTML yup that's why I just think it's stupid and not too much fun! Whereas the Helly Hansen races are a challenge it's not just down to sheer idiocy!!

I have agreed to do this next year. I'm not sure why, but I think I'll like it.

£100 to run around a muddy field. I cant help but think they saw you coming.

Turn up and run in a XC league race. They are so friendly you wont even have to be a member of a club!

But they are not called the "Tough guy" (even if the competition is fierce and won by well "tough guys") so I suspect they dont have the appeal.

I've always reckoned that Tough Guy is all about bragging rights, and maybe actually enjoyable either for masochists or those up the sharp end getting some glory. Of course I've never done it (and never will - have given up doing things I don't actually enjoy just to be able to brag), so don't have first hand experience - maybe there's something I'm missing.

Pushing yourself through unpleasant stuff can be good fun and a sense of achievement at the end of it. Not for everyone though.

It's not really just a field though is it. Have you seen the course?

I know its 21 obstacles etc and full of people dressed in silly outfits.

As Aracer says its about about bragging rights and a carnival event as oppose to an athletic one.

Each to their own however, £100?

There's some stinging nettles and brambles and some broken glass at the end of my garden.
Anyone's more than welcome to run through them to win the coveted Firm Dude prize. Only 200 quid to enter. First prize is 50% off next years entrance and right to tell everyone you're a Firm Dude.

Did the TG on Sunday and finished in just over 2 hours. The entry of £100 might sound a bit steep, but as has been mentioned above, it's worth every penny.

I don't think there is anything else in civi land where you can experience the physical and mental challenges of such extremes in a relatively safe environment. Don't know the number of broken bones this year, nor the cases of hypothermia. At least there wasn't the wind chill this year, even though the ground and water were much colder. Crawling over shattered 1" thick ice, under barbed wire was the worst bit for me. Just beating the excruciating pain and disorientation of the underwater sections.

Already entered for next year. Lovin' it!

Well done 49er
My mate was the only one of our summer team to enter it. he finished in 1hr39mins.

Skills guiding - the obsticles and water come after the country miles run shown in the pictures

As for those saying its all about bragging rights - yes perhaps it is, but its only the same as mayhem or SITS - its just a test of endurance and will. Plus you won't meet a nicer bunch of people (apart from MTBers) 😉

This was me in the summer race (not the bloke in the goggles) Make the temp -2ish or less and you can see how keeping warm can be a problem.
I've not done the winter one and after speaking to my mate - not sure I want to now
