I also have a lot of time for this films poor relation - The Running Man...
The Running Man has some of Arnie’s best cheesy lines.

When Arnie's was made it was good for the time but if you look back at some of his movies they were rather cheesy with Commando being extremely cheesy with the butch camp look alike Freddie Mercury.
We can remember it for you wholesale is great. Total Recall, Arnie/Paul Verhoven is great.
The remake, however, sucks the sweat off a dead man's balls.

I haven't seen it since reading Verhoeven pointing out that it's all in his head - he never makes it out of the chair in Total Recall - I should do.
The original also gave us the argh! seal. For this alone it is better

I enjoyed the remake… different enough… really not ‘better’ though.
I think they're both good, for different reasons. It's not really a remake, they do different things with the source material.

yeah its OK, I didnt like the robot stormtrooper badguys- lazy scifi trope- & the bit where they jump between flying cars
most of all it doesnt have the 90s Verhoeven madness
I didn’t read the continuation of this thread and just watched it on Netflix having been told it’s good.
It’s terrible! All of the interesting bits have been removed, and replaced by utter tosh like a train that goes through the flipping centre of the earth, and Kate Beckinsale having done great stuff in the past, is awful. Who told her to pout and assume sexy poses throughout the ENTIRE FILM...??? Plus don’t get me started on her ‘just out of a salon’ hair...

Let's face it, Beckinsale is no top shelf actress and nobody is going to better Verhoevens efforts.
But I still liked it.

The new one would probably have done better as a standalone film rather than a "reboot", at least it's not as bad as what they did to Robocop...
The original has a cult following and is peak Arnie, only other film I enjoy as much is Demolition Man...
