Has anybody got any recommendations for accommodation around and abouts Torridon? I normally just go in the van and sleep in it but looking for somewhere that'll fit 6-8 people for a Thursday - Sunday break.

The Torridon is rather nice and it has less formal accommodation for groups too.

But it’s nae cheap.

Kinlochewe Bunkhouse if it’s open again as website says it was undergoing repairs but below now quotes rates so maybe worth a call.

Can highly recommend the YHA
It’s basic, but in a great location and the people running it couldn’t be more helpful.

The Inn at the Torridon rather than the Hotel. Still not cheap.

Try round at Sheildaig?

There's little in the area, so try further afield, like Kinlochewe, Gairloch or Achnasheen. I'm not sure if the Ledgowan Lodge still has a bunkhouse.

There's **** all around Torridon, probably why it's one of the best places I've ever ridden/been...

We stayed in the Kinlochewe chalets a few years ago. Basic, but good accomodation and reasonably priced.

Torridon YHA is good , the fella that run it not so much but that was a few years back. Torridon Inn was agreat wee place not cheap but good food and drink and about 25 minutes walk from the youth hostel.
It really is a beautiful area , as is Gairloch to the north.

Is Calum back in situ at the Beinn Eighe carpark? He's quite fond of peanut butter (crunchy variety)

A bit out of date - the folk running the YHA now (great place to stay) are spot on and the Torridon Inn doesn't do food for non residents.

The free campsite is the most midge infested place I've ever been.

Pitched my tent early. Was going to head for the loo at dusk. There was writhing squirming mass of midges desperately trying to squeeze through the mesh of my tent. Like some kind of horror film

I ate may breakfast the next day and watched a motorbike camper pack up while running about the campsite with a midge mesh hood on. Looked horrific. They had all gone by the time I was ready to leave the tent.

Same for several days.

Up on the hillside by the road there was a breeze and it was totally midge free.

I know where i'd camp next time - inside the yha:^)

If you are minted I wandered into the torridon to see about some food at the restaurant. I was wearing grubby MTB kit. "The restaurant is fully booked sir"

They sent me to the bar round the corner for food, which was fine. It seems to be residents only now.

Staying in the hotel has now made its way onto my bucket list. It was the nicest entrance hall I've ever walked into. Just priced 2 nights for me, wife and one sprog. £2,700. That's not my usual room rate!

I will have to save hard to stay there!

The riding was mint :-)

Yes, I was! We stayed at the newly built Ben Damph Lodge - stunning place!

So, don't feed the stag? I think the problem with deer is more to do with huge areas of Scotland being owned by offshore hedge funds or absentee landowners who allegedly manage the deer estates by killing a small amount of stags every year which has zero effect on the population numbers.Estate mismanagement is the cause of the problem rather than a few sentimental tourists. Deer are less scared of people now, maybe I should have gralloched Calum with a Kichen Devil rather than let him lick food off my fingers.
