Off to Toronto soon, anyone have any recommendations of things to do/see, places to eat, places not to eat, etc?
How long are you there for? Is this a leisure or business trip? How much time you have will make all the difference in terms of recommendations. Where will you be staying?
Try and fit in Toronto Island if you can, great view back of the skyline.
Three nights, leisure, Chelsea hote downtownl , then on to Niagara Falls for two nights.
Already thinking of the CN Tower and we have a two hour guided tour booked, but aside from that I'm open to ideas.
On the places to avoid, things like TGI Fridays on 5th Avenue in Manhattan, that was very poor
Pity, niagara falls is a shithole. I'd just spend my time wondering through each of the 'little countries' but I'd return to China town each night for food.
Chinatown, ok, sounds good, cheers
My dad lived there for 30 years so I've been more times than I can remember.
Queen St West just west of Yonge St is a great place to be around the weekends. Loads of bars and restaurants. Nawlins on King St West is a cracking restaurant with live music. Well worth checking out if you have time.
The eastern beaches around Queen St East, east of Woodbine Ave is also a great place at the weekends with loads of bars and restaurants and a real buzz about it.
The restaurant at the top of the CN Tower is well worth checking out, best to go early evening so you can see the city in day and night.
Greektown on the Danforth (East of Yonge) is well worth a visit on a summers evening.
The Docks (it's a massive bar/restaurant) just south of Lakeshore Blvd is worth going to for lunch. Best bacon sandwich I ever had was from there, plus it gives you a better view of the city that anywhere else except maybe from the Islands.
Try and catch a Bluejays game at the Skydome. Pretty easy to get tickets, unlike for Raptor games!
I love Toronto.
Places to avoid? Jane and Finch, though you ain't likely to go there anyway...
It's a fantastic city, I once spent 2 weeks there, and could easily have spent 2 months...
Cheers loddrik 🙂
I think we just used a DK '10 Best things to do in Toronto' book and seemed to do ok. The highlight of the trip for me was seeing the Blue Jays play at whatever the Skydome's called nowadays on [url=
Day[/url]. Nice city.
I was going to say pretty much all of what Loddrick said.
On Queen West, we love the Rex (www.therex.ca) on a saturday afternoon for live music. Or Grossman's Tavern (www.grossmanstavern.com) on Spadina. And no visit would be complete without a trip to the Horseshoe Tavern (www.horseshoetavern.com).
The beach(es), for sure. Eggs Benedict at The Beacher Cafe is usually our first port of call when we're there seeing family.
The Distillery District is good for a wander. Had food in the Mill Street brew pub, and it was great.
We've also done the tour of the Steam Whistle Brewery (www.steamwhistle.ca), which is just south of the CN Tower in the old railway roundhouse a couple of times. Would recommend it if you're into beery stuff.
We're back there second week of August. Can't wait.
Oh, and the St Lawrence Market if you like, um, indoor markets.
On the places to avoid, the south end of Younge Street, and particularly east of the south end of Younge (between Younge and Church) used to be a bit shadey on an evening, but I think the city have been trying to clean up the area of late.
We did something like this for the wife's 30th, the little islands off Toronto are worth a walk through, CN tower and I'd say it's worth paying the bit extra to go up past the restaurant and I think you can hang over the side now when all kitted out with harnesses and the likes, open top bus tour to see the place. I'm sure there's an ice hockey museum if you're in to that. Plenty of stuff to fill a few days.
The best bit about out trip was the vineyard tour at Niagara, started fairly early and we were half cut by 1pm but it was great weather when we were there which helped. The tour picked us up at the hotel and we went to see 4 or 5 vineyards if I remember correctly.
You can walk behind the falls through some tunnels and there is of course the maid of the mist boats.
Already booked on the Maid Of The Mist 🙂
Brewery tour won't teach me anything new but the vineyards one might be good
When's baseball season?
<edit> now but they're not at home while we're there
We stayed in a room only hotel, so ate breakfast out and dinner out, and generally didn't bother with lunch as such, as the breakfasts are rather filling.
2 really good places I remember for brekkie, and going by current reviews, they've stood the test of time -
The Senator, just off Dundas square, and Paddington Pumps, which is in St Lawrence market. both serve unbelievably good eggs benedict, my brekkie of choice!.
As I said earlier, you can't really go wrong in Chinatown for dinner, fresh vibrant food that we just don't do at a broad level in this country.
When we were there there was the international Buskerfest on, they had shut off Queen st east and it was a huge selection of the best buskers you'll ever see, bizarre and awesome in equal measure!.

Not a major loss, I promise. Not only is baseball NOT a Canadian sport (Toronto only has a team because of having critical mass), one must never forget Homer Simpson's great line when he attended a baseball game at a time he had sworn off beer.
I went to a couple of baseball games, and was about the only guy at the bar!
Canada wonderland just north of tronno !!!! Toronto zoo (fantastic) , gananoque thousand island river tour by Watertown new York border ... I know it's a wider Toronto shout but something to check out in Ontario
(Ice) Hockey Hall of Fame/
Sure, there is other stuff to do but every time I go to Toronto a visit to Stanley's house is a given.

Beat me to it!

Lord Stanley of Preston's legacy to Canada.
Ice hockey hall of fame.
Don't bother with Niagra Falls. Drive 500km north and visit the world's 2nd tallest smoke stack and the world's largest nickel (that'll be Sudbury then - and the wife's family wonder why I don't visit very often).
Cheers everyone 🙂
Got the DK book that watts mentioned so will be giving that a good read before we go
Canoe Restaurant was extremely good, great view. No idea how much it cost, but someone else was paying! 🙂
Also, I'm not aware of when the seasons are, but I went to a Maple Leafs NHL game. That was a great experience. Cool stadium.
