You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I was out today and tore my walking boots. They're a suede and leather boot and they're not waterproof. I'm going to be yomping a long distance trail next weekend so would rather repair these than try and break in a new pair by Friday.
Does this look repairable? Will someone like Lancashire Sports Repair be able to do anything with it, given the tear is right on the seam with the sole? Alternatively, could I bodge it myself in a hard wearing way with something like Shoe Goo? The video reviews of it online suggest that it will come apart in this sort of location. Or should I head to the outdoor shop tomorrow and get cracking on a new pair?

I'd try repairing that.
What mean by try repairing is continue to walk in them until my foot slips through
Is that through to your sock? You might be able to repair it using a tough thread, leather needle and figure-8 stitch. Because of where it is, it’s not like you could patch or stick something over.
yeah thats very repairable, i'd use aquasure or mcnett, whatever the shop has.
I have done a lot of similar repairs on various footwear. The trick to a good finish is to mask up the area, wear some rubber gloves and set up a little stand so you can rest the boot in the correct position so the glue doesnt run off before its cured - it's funny stuff that looks stable but likes to find it's own level. Once the glue is on you might want to put a bit of duck tape round the boot to make sure the hole/tear is closed up as much as possible. Also i'd try and put something on the inside to stop the glue running through. Probably a tightly stuffed sock inside a plastic bag
Once id got it sealed and cured, id do another layer of glue to strengthen it up. Maybe even a third layer. Put the glue in the freezer with a bit of clingfilm under the cap to stop it curing in the tube in between layers
in my experience a good repair will outlast the rest of the boot
I'd stitch it up with dental floss.
If the hole is all the way through I'd start by repairing from the inside. Let it soak through and then proceed as above.
It's very much repairable I'd say.
I repaired a cut that was bigger than that in some Gortex boots with some Stormsure.
They've been waterproof and fine for well over a year now and it's in an area that the boot flexes a fair amount when walking.
i just got some merrell moab 2 gtx off amazon, for £69, half price, (theres a new version out)well reviewed and wider foot.
worn them about several hours already and very comfortable, dont need wearing in
grab some while you can
Just come back to this, I was sorting through some boots and shoes earlier, and I was reminded that I’ve got a couple of pairs of boots, one is a pair of 5:10 MTB boots, the other a pair of Meindle Desert Fox army boots, and both of them have had the foam ‘air’ midsole basically start to disintegrate. Are any of the products mentioned suitable for filling up the voids and stabilising the midsole? The 5:10’s have had very little wear, so anything that will enable me to carry on wearing them will be very useful indeed.
For the OP glue.
For count zero, nothing much will help I'm afraid
