you're showing yourself up. If you watch any car review type programme, they have almost all tried to include the clever analogys that Clarkson does so well
How can I be showing myself up? You're right that other presenters are even more embarassing as they try to copy Clarkson. However I don't think his analogies are clever, they make me cringe. Sometimes he seems to spend more time waffling than talking about the car.
witnesses have stepped up and said he didnt hit the producer, just hurled abuse and threaten to get him fired apparently
All I said was that that the anti clarkson crowd don't like the suggestion that his top gear persona is in any way a "Character" that he plays
The point is, whether it's a "character" or not, casual racism, misogyny, etc., etc. are wrong. That should be an accepted fact.
It's the casual nature that keeps the closet racists happy - the constant subtle and not so subtle digs sustains that kind of backwards thinking.
I read one of his early books that was left at work years back on nightshift. Unless he was "in character" for the whole book, the bloke's a reactionary knob.
Moron steps right on in again..

True?
Sauce?
If true than it's just a strop gone wrong. Who hasn't been torn a strip off in the workplace eh?
If you've been in business since the 90's I'd say most of us, certainly me..
ANyhoo's 17 pages and still counting, lets try to beat the Ski/Snowboard thread yeah?

You wrote this beneath a quote of my post.
For the record, my post doesn't disagree with anything you have said in yours.
Ok, fair enough. Wasn't directed at you but at this idea as a whole.
ANyhoo's 17 pages and still counting, lets try to beat the Ski/Snowboard thread yeah?
Clarkson's a blader. FACT.
A blader with a selfie stick AND drone
A bladder with a selfie stick, drone and 850k followers all signed up.. 😆
Moron out.
Looks like Bikebouy has taken the 'moron' sobriquet quite well... 🙂
Everyone on this thread is being trolled by everyone else.Clarkson would shed a tear if he were to read it.
😆
Still a top story on the BBC news 😆
Something about Dinosaurs, monsters and a thank you to his fans.. But the clip did show him driving a white Citroen C3 so I call it staged 😆
Mor....
Awe I can't be bovvered 😛
So he got pissed , arrived late when everything was shut, got angry and then punched someone whilst mentioning their nationality and calling them the C word.
I take it all back its just an act for the camera.
Not just a violent thug but some racism thrown in too, its just a TV persona though, right?

Why can't they have a proper punch up instead of pulling ranks?
If you get punch in the face you should punch that person back! Simple.
I think the only person that can replace JC perhaps is Rowan Atkinson. The only draw back is that he does not look like a boy racer.
I think Dapper Laughs might be available
Is calling an Irishman Irish racist? Paddy yes mick yes.
No, but if you call someone lazy and back it up with comments regarding country of origin then it is imo.
I think if you sandwich 'Irish' with 'Lazy' and '****' you get the overall sense that he's not using nationality as a compliment to offset the other two insults.
Is calling an Irishman Irish racist?
Have you tried prefixing an insult to black person with
"You lazy black **** "
Just a description and not racist then?
Can we call this the Ron Atkinson defence please?
That Renault ^^ it's a Citroen shirley 😆
Cleary I deserve the Moron tag now, no?

Good link
It’s worth skimming the comments at the foot of the Telegraph page.

Oh God, what a dreadful thought. "Look at me I've got a McLaren".
Steve Coogan's yer man. He could do it as Paul Calf or Gareth Cheeseman.
Hes sold it..
Ron Atkinson more like.
Fun quiz for the Clarkson supporters
I got 12 out of 13. Not sure if that is something I should be proud of...
Yeah I think rowan an sold his mclaren well (hope he mentioned it was an accident damage repair jobby)
I got 8 but really don't get the quiz. It's hardly the most outrageous of the statements from either of them.
Hope it's all over soon it's just so not news and really annoying ....just finish the last 3 episodes then do something with him..
I got 11 out of 13. It's not really hard to figure out who is most likely to have said what - the completely moronic Daily Mail reader type quotes I put down as coming from Clarkson, and the slightly less moronic quotes as coming from a politician with an eye on possible PR repercussions.
JC used to be quite entertaining but of late his success seems to have gone to his head - when he's not slagging off cyclists he's busy offending all and sundry or reportedly throwing punches at staff who have the misfortune to work with him.
It's time for him to be put out to pasture - the bbc needs to get rid and apply the same standard they would apply to anyone else working for them as an employee or as a sub contractor.
Bloody hell I'm shocked no one else has mentioned that.
Oh wait!
It's Sunday night… and there's nothing good on TV…
I was hoping for a repeat of Dads Army. When not have TG done Dad's Army style?
Aye Top Gear is on.
apply the same standard they would apply to anyone else working for them as an employee or as a sub contractor.
That's what they're doing, in line with any sensible HR/workplace policy. There's been an accusation (Or in this case, it sounds like a sort of confession) of potential wrongdoing, and an individual was suspended while they're investigating and following the correct procedures.
That's exactly the same standard that any employee or sub-contractor at the Beeb would expect. Oh, and FWIW, I used to work at the Beeb. 😀
However, I suspect that you'd like to see a different "standard" employed here. One that suits your opinion.
Sooooo....
What did you all watch instead ??? 😆
Me ?
I went to the pub early on and had two pints of Goodens Gold 😀
What did you all watch instead ???
Top Gear.
bikebuoy wins.
What did you all watch instead ???
Angelina Jolie's jiggly bits are getting jiggly on C5.
I used to work at the Beeb
I know I saw you in Black Adder.
Star Trek has just finished but I was actually working with it on in the background
Chuckles @ Junky!
What did you all watch instead ???
Joe who I went to school with flying with the Red Arrows 😀
I watched Red Arrows too. Totally different to three blokes fannying about and marvellous stuff.
I watched Red Arrows too.
Didn't you watch it when it was on before? It was a repeat, after all.
Didn't you watch it when it was on before? It was a repeat, after all.
They're not even real arrows.
Nice to watch an old student of mine on the Beeb instead of TG. Thought the reds made for good viewing.
Didn't you watch it when it was on before? It was a repeat, after all.
No.
Whooooooosh!
No, that's not my impression of them.
seems that there is a new episode of top gear on this week after all
I reckon that after being compared to Jimmy Savile by a BBC executive, then Clarksons solicitor is going to have an absolute ball over the next few days!
Yeah I think rowan an sold his mclaren well (hope he mentioned it was an accident damage repair jobby)
I'm sure he did, it made it worth a lot more.
@Drac if you're referring to my previous; happy to bite. Having flown with them on a pre season display I can vouch that they work incredibly hard both in the air and on the ground.
A great bunch if not the best.
they work incredibly hard both in the air and on the ground.
No one doubts that for a minute.
The joke was an obvious one, based around the "Not even a real hamster" rant that often appears on any thread about TG here.
*Edited for avoidance of breaking Rule 1*
Oh, my bad. Not familiar with that one.
If we wanted humour, one mention of the RAF could have brought out plenty of comments about staying in five star hotels and people having strops over plates of sandwiches instead of real food 😉
RAFRACAS
Any fool can be uncomfortable.....
Check in not dig in........
I'll get my coat.
This quote is interesting...
“It’s a risky business being a cyclist in the UK, there are a lot of people who really dislike us. It’s the Jeremy Clarkson influence – we’re hated on the roads. We just hope people realise we are just flesh and bones on two wheels.”
Victoria Pendleton, gold medal winner in the women’s sprint at the Beijing Olympics, 2008.
For those missing Top Gear, may I recommend that fine environmental show Russel Coight's "All Aussie Adventures" on YouTube.
BTW Pay particular attention to the colour of hands being shaken.
^^ He sure mocked those aboriginals proper. Job done. Good to see that Aussies aren't afraid of the PC crowd. Maybe the Last Best English left this country over a century ago? Now we have to mind our Ps and Qs around foreigners like we're ladies at court or something. *spits on floor and punches the nearest minority*
I reckon that after being compared to Jimmy Savile by a BBC executive, then Clarksons solicitor is going to have an absolute ball over the next few days!
Except he didn't really say that did he? He said that elements of the whole affair are Savile-esque in that the perpetrator has loads of public support and the victim (who didn't complain in this case as we now know) is being attacked despite having done nothing more wrong than staying up to meet the "talent" from TG.
If the DM want to read that as a BBC exec saying Clarkson is like Savile then I'd suggest that it's almost as if they don't bother reading what they write and just slap sensationalist headlines onto articles ripped off from other news sources as clickbait.
I'm staggered that the press are describing Clarkson as untouchable. He's blatantly not untouchable. There's a named witness in the Telegraph who describes a punch resulting in a split lip, dizziness and a trip to casualty.
Even if the 'victim' doesn't wish to give evidence, one witness plus the trip to casualty (which will be recorded) ought to be enough evidence for the Police to do something - even they decide to caution.
Forget the BBC - if these accounts are true and Clarkson doesn't face some kind of justice then anybody whineing about lack of action needs to explain why they didn't call crimestoppers themselves.

That would be a matter of how common this kind of outburst is - the punch aside - if 40 minute tirades aimed at members of the crew over trivial issues have any kind of precedent then it appears he has been untouchable up to now.
There is a culture of bullying in the TV industry and there are household names who bully and intimidate crew freely on the basis that crew are disposable but show hangs on their name. As much as they can be vicious these people can also be very litigious. TV crew are in a very weak position professionally as positions are freelance and recruitment is on an informal who-you-know basis. Its not a situation in which you can easily blow a whistle. Thats possibly highlighted by someone being subjected to a lengthy verbal attack, and physical violence, and hospital visit, not reporting it.

Yegods i must have had a quiet satire-ectomy performed whilst dozing.
I enjoyed the Red Arrows programme more thAn many recent Top Gears!

Fiona Bruce is supposed to be a particularly nasty piece of work. I'm not joking.... a friend has witnessed a clarkson-esque outburst from her to a junior crew member on the set of the antiques roadshow.

Hang on, isn't is all an act? He's not really a violent bully, it's just a character he plays on TV and in the press.

Which episodes has he been acting a violent bully on? I must have missed them all.

Oi, don't berate RAF personnel because they are clever enough to send the poshos out to get shot at whilst they lounge around in air conditioned hardened shelters. Any working class lad who opts for the RAF has a brain between his/her ears.
The BBC are screwed as Clarkson is the show and it's worth millions and millions to them.
Its the BBC's own fault. They knew he was trouble, they have repeatedly renewed his contract knowing this and have not taken the opportunity to bring in and develop alternative presenters, despite knowing full well it was just a matter of time before Clarkson went way too far.
I have no understanding of why anyone supports bullying in the work place.
I have no understanding of why there is a massive petition to support bullying in the workplace by Clarkson, yet comparatively nothing from the same public in response to food bank need escalating, closing of public libraries and dismantling of care facilities for the disabled etc.
I despair of people priorities and selfishness.
