The Beeb have apologised to viewers for cancelling the show.
No one from the hotel is going to be involved in the 'investigation'.

you're showing yourself up. If you watch any car review type programme, they have almost all tried to include the clever analogys that Clarkson does so well

How can I be showing myself up? You're right that other presenters are even more embarassing as they try to copy Clarkson. However I don't think his analogies are clever, they make me cringe. Sometimes he seems to spend more time waffling than talking about the car.

All I said was that that the anti clarkson crowd don't like the suggestion that his top gear persona is in any way a "Character" that he plays

The point is, whether it's a "character" or not, casual racism, misogyny, etc., etc. are wrong. That should be an accepted fact.
It's the casual nature that keeps the closet racists happy - the constant subtle and not so subtle digs sustains that kind of backwards thinking.

I read one of his early books that was left at work years back on nightshift. Unless he was "in character" for the whole book, the bloke's a reactionary knob.

True?
Sauce?

If true than it's just a strop gone wrong. Who hasn't been torn a strip off in the workplace eh?

If you've been in business since the 90's I'd say most of us, certainly me..

ANyhoo's 17 pages and still counting, lets try to beat the Ski/Snowboard thread yeah?

You wrote this beneath a quote of my post.

For the record, my post doesn't disagree with anything you have said in yours.

Everyone on this thread is being trolled by everyone else.

So he got pissed , arrived late when everything was shut, got angry and then punched someone whilst mentioning their nationality and calling them the C word.

I take it all back its just an act for the camera.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/top-gear/11472112/Jeremy-Clarkson-punched-producer-and-called-him-lazy-Irish.html

Why can't they have a proper punch up instead of pulling ranks?

If you get punch in the face you should punch that person back! Simple.

I think the only person that can replace JC perhaps is Rowan Atkinson. The only draw back is that he does not look like a boy racer.

No, but if you call someone lazy and back it up with comments regarding country of origin then it is imo.

I think if you sandwich 'Irish' with 'Lazy' and '****' you get the overall sense that he's not using nationality as a compliment to offset the other two insults.

Is calling an Irishman Irish racist?

Have you tried prefixing an insult to black person with
"You lazy black **** "

Just a description and not racist then?

Can we call this the Ron Atkinson defence please?

I got 11 out of 13. It's not really hard to figure out who is most likely to have said what - the completely moronic Daily Mail reader type quotes I put down as coming from Clarkson, and the slightly less moronic quotes as coming from a politician with an eye on possible PR repercussions.

JC used to be quite entertaining but of late his success seems to have gone to his head - when he's not slagging off cyclists he's busy offending all and sundry or reportedly throwing punches at staff who have the misfortune to work with him.

It's time for him to be put out to pasture - the bbc needs to get rid and apply the same standard they would apply to anyone else working for them as an employee or as a sub contractor.

apply the same standard they would apply to anyone else working for them as an employee or as a sub contractor.

That's what they're doing, in line with any sensible HR/workplace policy. There's been an accusation (Or in this case, it sounds like a sort of confession) of potential wrongdoing, and an individual was suspended while they're investigating and following the correct procedures.

That's exactly the same standard that any employee or sub-contractor at the Beeb would expect. Oh, and FWIW, I used to work at the Beeb. 😀

However, I suspect that you'd like to see a different "standard" employed here. One that suits your opinion.

No one doubts that for a minute.

The joke was an obvious one, based around the "Not even a real hamster" rant that often appears on any thread about TG here.

This quote is interesting...

“It’s a risky business being a cyclist in the UK, there are a lot of people who really dislike us. It’s the Jeremy Clarkson influence – we’re hated on the roads. We just hope people realise we are just flesh and bones on two wheels.”
Victoria Pendleton, gold medal winner in the women’s sprint at the Beijing Olympics, 2008.

Now we have to mind our Ps and Qs around foreigners like we're ladies at court or something. *spits on floor and punches the nearest minority*

I reckon that after being compared to Jimmy Savile by a BBC executive, then Clarksons solicitor is going to have an absolute ball over the next few days!

Except he didn't really say that did he? He said that elements of the whole affair are Savile-esque in that the perpetrator has loads of public support and the victim (who didn't complain in this case as we now know) is being attacked despite having done nothing more wrong than staying up to meet the "talent" from TG.

If the DM want to read that as a BBC exec saying Clarkson is like Savile then I'd suggest that it's almost as if they don't bother reading what they write and just slap sensationalist headlines onto articles ripped off from other news sources as clickbait.

I'm staggered that the press are describing Clarkson as untouchable. He's blatantly not untouchable. There's a named witness in the Telegraph who describes a punch resulting in a split lip, dizziness and a trip to casualty.

Even if the 'victim' doesn't wish to give evidence, one witness plus the trip to casualty (which will be recorded) ought to be enough evidence for the Police to do something - even they decide to caution.

Forget the BBC - if these accounts are true and Clarkson doesn't face some kind of justice then anybody whineing about lack of action needs to explain why they didn't call crimestoppers themselves.

I'm staggered that the press are describing Clarkson as untouchable.

That would be a matter of how common this kind of outburst is - the punch aside - if 40 minute tirades aimed at members of the crew over trivial issues have any kind of precedent then it appears he has been untouchable up to now.

There is a culture of bullying in the TV industry and there are household names who bully and intimidate crew freely on the basis that crew are disposable but show hangs on their name. As much as they can be vicious these people can also be very litigious. TV crew are in a very weak position professionally as positions are freelance and recruitment is on an informal who-you-know basis. Its not a situation in which you can easily blow a whistle. Thats possibly highlighted by someone being subjected to a lengthy verbal attack, and physical violence, and hospital visit, not reporting it.

Fiona Bruce is supposed to be a particularly nasty piece of work. I'm not joking.... a friend has witnessed a clarkson-esque outburst from her to a junior crew member on the set of the antiques roadshow.

Oi, don't berate RAF personnel because they are clever enough to send the poshos out to get shot at whilst they lounge around in air conditioned hardened shelters. Any working class lad who opts for the RAF has a brain between his/her ears.

Its the BBC's own fault. They knew he was trouble, they have repeatedly renewed his contract knowing this and have not taken the opportunity to bring in and develop alternative presenters, despite knowing full well it was just a matter of time before Clarkson went way too far.

I have no understanding of why anyone supports bullying in the work place.

I have no understanding of why there is a massive petition to support bullying in the workplace by Clarkson, yet comparatively nothing from the same public in response to food bank need escalating, closing of public libraries and dismantling of care facilities for the disabled etc.

I despair of people priorities and selfishness.
