Whit would be a good one actually.

I'd like them to get on someone that just doesn't like cars. Actually **** it, let's get Dara O'Briain, Griff Rhys Jones and Rory Mcgrath and do 3 Men In A Car.

Oh god, I've just changed my mind about watching the rehash whoever they get in.

Did you watch 3 men in a boat? It was like top gear, with civilised people. And Rory McGrath.

Did they in essence repeat the same skits/stunts/jokes/car tests/sketches for years at a time? If not it's an entirely different beast and I am therefore not interested.

Almost but not as funny and no one talked about it on here until now.

Lest us not forget, Clarkson doesn't appear to have been sacked, just his contract not reviewed.

I suspect Top Gear to lay fallow for a year or so (maybe a new show to try the waters in the meantime) then a suitably reticent JC and crew miraculously reappear to save the day again with a big relaunch of TG in 2016/7.

To be fair I'd say it was Smart Casual, they all wear jackets and shoes normally.

So Guy Martin might be in the running to replace Clarkson link

Now that I'd watch.

Well, apart from the Guardian article not seeming to have any hard facts apart from "he'll be good in Top Gear", I'm not sure Guy Martin would be a good fit for a programme like TG.

He's brilliant in the documentary style stuff, I'm not sure what he would bring if you just put him in a BMW M3 to rag around a track. If he had to build half the M3 first however... so, yes, some of the challenges would be right up his street, but you'd just end up with an identical programme to what he basically is doing now with spitfires, downhill sleds etc. (not that that would be a bad thing per se)

Did you read the article?

It's essentially a long list of reasons why he wouldn't be doing it.

while at the same time saying it might be nice if he did.

And it closes with the point....

So the smart money isn’t on Guy Martin as the new presenter of Top Gear. But the sexy, bold, 21st-century money might be.

It would be a completely different show. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, but why handicap what could be a decent effort by strapping him to the TG brand? I'm sure he'd be more receptive to a new format which didn't have all that baggage attached to it.

Anyhow, I heard it was going to be Tony Martin.

The farmer, not the rider.

Now then - who would win a race - The Stig or Guy Martin?

That would make for interesting dynamics.

Anyhow, sorry if this has been mentioned already but

a) Yes, Mr C was a very good presenter for the show and it worked; also I failed to be offended and I simply enjoyed it for what it was .... but .....

b) what makes it a great show, is actually the production!

I just personally find it random that this hasn't been considered in all of this. The person that was thwacked (allegedly) was the one that helped make it so good in the current format, so the presenter is actually less important!

JC may be an aggressive bastard, or he may be a troubled soul that throws himself under a train tomorrow.

Folk are getting far too carried away on zero evidence, if you get what I mean.

Well apparently the evidence, according to several people including it would appear an independent witness, is that he physically assaulted someone, so it the evidence is not entirely "zero".

If this is not true, as I notice you have used the term "thwacked (allegedly)", then Clarkson really should seek legal advice. Although I would be surprised if the BBC's legal department have screwed up such an important issue that badly.

So those lovely clarkson fans have forced sue Perkins from twitter with death threats as there were false rumours she was going to be his replacement?

What is it about the man that attracts such fans ?

Good point, Drac. Perhaps rephrased as "Some people say some effing stupid stuff online, and some of them are vile idiots".

Who's offended, FeeFoo?

Exactly they don't represent us all, just the press like to tell people they do and there's those who believe it.

FeeFoo is a Bake Off fan.

Indeed. I just chose the two first things that came to mind that I dislike and googled them with the added term "death threats". Hardly means that fans of either football or Made in Chelsea are all like that, does it? Reductio ad absurdum a little, I agree, but pretty much up there with the "anyone who likes Top Gear is a racist" type of hyperbole that gets spouted! 😀
